Spaghetti!

Dec 27, 2005 01:59

Kit has the Flying Spaghetti Monster on her Livejournal wishing you a Merry Christmas! The FS Monster was created by a physics student in light of the creationism vs. evolution teaching issue in schools. He is saying that if you are going to teach creationism in school, you may as well teach that a flying spaghetti monster created the universe! And ( Read more... )

I agree with you that the Creation story must be full of symbols. But for a moment, ponder the possibility that God could have created the earth already being 4.5 billion years old! Muahahaha! Seriously though, just be sure and understand which creationists you're speaking to. Cause there's more than one kind. Take me for instance; sure I freely admit I don't know what happened, but I like to think that God created science, and with science created everything. So maybe God sat there for 4.5 billion years doing stuff while the earth aged. Eh? EH ( ... )

Of course! Oma and Opa are who I consider to be my true religious influences. If only they had stayed my only influences I may never have developed such a cynicism for anything church-related. They taught us straight from scripture; gently nudging us towards a life of moral rectitude when we were most vulnerable as children. They shared their life stories and their walks with God and challenged us and told us to be compassionate and how to live by example. Indeed they are possibly at the very core of my moral center along with our parents. Creationism needs to be presented as a popular belief, but distinguished from science as a religious belief. Present the debate as it is, but formally teach evolution.

Consider this as well: The universe may have been created last night at 10:00 PM, with all of your "memories" already existing!!!

Well put it this way, if BCHS and Berkey Avenue (especially that MYF clan thingy) were my only religious influences... I'd have ended up a lot more twisted than I am today.

ah yes. one of the greatest things about humanity is the the right to chose how influences affect your thinking. with my own life experiences i have been able to independently giving deeeep thought to how religion works in my life. now i can't say i have all the answers i want or am still not confused by alot of things or and i will truthfully admit sometimes i question about God. Bleh! life is just to messed up sometimes.

Asking questions is good. Not knowing all the answers is good. I'd hate to think about what kind of people we'd be if we didn't ask questsions.

this is one of the most interesting topics i've seen on lj in a while. But the only thing i can add that is any different from what has already been said is that i don't like the flying spagetti monster. They way i see it (and how it has been presented to me) is in a God-mocking way. Personally, i'd never compare God to a italian, not even in kidding.

I think it just rubs me the wrong way.

I wouldn't say the creator of the monster intended to be comparing it to God himself, or even mocking God. He means to say that teaching something in school that is only a belief should open the doors equally to ALL beliefs. Thus, believing in something like the monster should be taught as well.

I can understand that, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

okay granted maybe science is the wrong place of religious teaching but i think that there should be a class about religion in school because as i look at man is a spiritual being and people need some teaching on the subject(in a broad way) so that they can make a choice on what to believe and how it will effect there life. be it christian or zen or whatever
