...is now 6 yrs old.  Yep.  I had it 6 yrs as of yesterday.  I meant to post this yesterday but massive thunderstorms rolled through.  Notobles about my machine (for how little has actually been done to upgrade it):  DVD burner installed (don't have enough virtual memory to create DVD movie.  I use it to burn data off), upgraded from 256 Mb of RAM

Whatever you do, don't get a video card like the one my computer (VAIO K-27) has -- a Radeon IGP 345M. Apparently it's the crappiest video card out there, due to shared memory, and official people just pretend like it doesn't exist. :(

I don't think that was the video card for the laptop I am looking at. I went to Best Buy (after the library) after my post yesterday and found a laptop that might suit. I'm going back to look at it again.

Heh. I just bought one. I probably could have gotten a better deal if I waited but I saw one at Best Buy last night right before closing. I also splerged and paid for them to install anti-virus, anti-spyware and to uninstall all those extra things that Microsoft is paid by third party companies to install (AOL, Netzero, etc.).
All in all, it still has come out to less than what we paid for my old computer six years ago.
I'm going to pick it up tomorrow morning because they won't finish with the stuff before I have to be at work today.
