..........right.  During lunch today, I had three people show up one at a time at my desk while I was eating.  All of them expected me to stop what I was doing and solve their probems immediately.  It didn't matter that I get, as a salaried employee, one hour off for lunch; nope, not important, I had to find out about their autopsy report or their ( Read more... )

Yeah, it's a bugger when people don't respect a lunch break.

Do you think Arial Narrow 24pt Italic is BIG enough? I'd look for something more casual and use an even larger font, but then I have a huge font collection installed on my machine...

Maybe use Brush Script MT, with the NOT HERE in Arial Black, just to emphasise it!

Hmmm; that's a thought. I'm trying to walk the thin line between 'PLEASE GO AWAY, THANKS EVER SO' and 'STFU, I WILL HURT YOU'. It's a bit delicate.

One of my colleagues had a photo of a grenade with the pin in, and a number "1" attached to the pin, with the wording underneath it something like "we operate a first come first served policy. Please take a number and wait for your call." This was attached behind their typing sheet holder where it could be seen as folk walked through the door to the Admin office.

*hugs* I think that sounds like a lovely idea. If you don't stick to your guns you'll end up losing your lunch hour completely.

I agree. Maybe this will do the trick. It's a bit more polite than my original thought; apologies for the crappy photo-quality.

Also, the tiny writing at the bottom of the sign says "This message was brought to you by the I-Will-Bludgeon-The-Next-Person-Who-Bothers-Me Council For The Retention Of Sanity. All Rights Reserved."

The only way I am able to keep anyone from bothering me during lunch is to either ...

a) Disappear into a sub-conference room and barricade the door
b) Leave the building completely.

Doesn't make it right. Maybe you should make a sign too. And keep a club with a nail in it next to your desk... >_> That last option sounds really good right now.

I have a sonic screwdriver. Would that work?

The only nights this is really bad is Sunday nights, when I'm A1 and the person in charge. Usually any leaving of my desk is usually heralded by people wringing their hands by my empty chair when I get back. Granted, with the last two Sundays being the way they've been, I almost don't blame them.

A club works too.

You just need a sign that says "Out to lunch. Back at ---." And put it on your desk while eating. And if they try to get your attention, point at it. >> But I like your message. It has merit.

So far I like the blunt object suggestions :D But the grenade pull-tag wins.

Your sign is probably better overall though, if only for the poor humour-impaired souls that will try to interrupt you during lunch-break. (You can always keep the grenade for a backup. :D )

In the mood I'm in right now, the blunt instruments sound a lot more fun. It's not been a good day and tonight hasn't improved. Oh well... tomorrow's Friday. **thud**
