.....does anybody out there have any experience with stroke-victims?  Just got off the phone (it's just turned 9 p.m. here) with my younger sister; my mom had a stroke today around 11 a.m.  She'll be in intensive-care until they're certain she's stabilized-- there was some bleeding in the brain and her blood-pressure was 200-something-over-

I think it depends on the severity of the stroke. Some people can recover most functions. Your mom doesn't sound like it was too bad but only time will tell. *hugs*

*hugs you tight* I would agree with ytak, it has to do with the severity of the stroke. Thank god she wasn't driving and from the sounds of it she got medical care right away which can make a huge difference. No numbness is good. I would imagine its going to be a few days before they know the longer term effects and what needs to be done from here.

All I can tell you is that my Dad's mom had a couple of strokes long before she died and did just fine except for some weakness on one side. She spoke well, got around on her own and almost always had a letter to somebody going on the kitchen table. I don't remember exactly when she had the strokes, but it was a long time ago and I don't think she really started to deteriorate until the last few years before she passed away, which was several years ago. It's ones of those things where only time will tell, but there's no need to expect the worse. Prompt medical care really increases the odds of recovery, and if she was driving your sister right before it happened, she must be pretty sharp in the first place and that helps too. I'm thinking good thoughts for you.
