[008] I'm sure the demographics data will be quite useful. Somehow.

If my fellow passengers would indulge my curiosity: If you're from a place that uses or used the AD or CE dating system, what year is it where you're from?

It's 5032 at home, but we don't use that calendar anymore.

((OOC: If I get enough responses, I'll do a for-real statistical analysis and have Lika report on the findings.))

ace, hajime, bryn, catpaw, i'm from the future!, walking straight into the fourth wall, not stupid just earnest, christine, eon, ki, russ, batou, herz

Dating... system?

Um. It was year 45 of the reign of King Marduk...

Imagine if from now on, your people counted the years based on Marduk's reign, even after he died. So after a long time, it would be the 1000th year of Marduk's "reign." That's how this calendar works. It doesn't get reset when new events happen.

But then how would you know who was king during the year you're talking about??

((This is VERY IMPORTANT.))

You'd...look it up?

[Lika doesn't see the relevance, frankly.]

I don't think I've heard of such... dating systems.

On Vana'diel, I think it was something to do with a war... I can't really remember, I'm sorry.

You...don't know what date it is?

rdmcatpaw April 27 2009, 04:12:22 UTC
Well this thing tells me... but I don't really keep track back on Vana'Diel.

Its either Firesday, Earthsday, Watersday, Windsday, Iceday, Lightningday, Lightsday, or Darksday.

Oh, you lost your helpmate when you were brought here? I'm sorry. At least the comms are...sort of useful?

You're the third person I've talked to from the early 21st century.

This is so odd.

Hnn.

[She's right, it is odd. Russ mulls over what that might mean.]

So why'd you wanna know?

If I get enough answers, I'm going to run a statistical analysis.

But if everyone's clustered right around the beginning of the 21st century except me, there's not much point.

It was 2008 when I left...2009 now, my time.

Mimmi's from the 1940's...The guy from the future is gone now I think. Haven't seen him in a while.

yousoundblue April 27 2009, 16:07:27 UTC
Yes, I knew about Mimmi.

You're also from the early 21st century? There are a lot of passengers clustered around then--and the 1940s aren't terribly far off from then, either.

[She's bemused.]

brynkitten April 27 2009, 20:04:41 UTC
Yeah, I noticed that too.

...so wait, you're from the 51st century?

That's even further away from the 21st than that other Captain. I think he was from...

[She pauses, thinking.]

The 23rd? He didn't stay long though.

Yes. We don't call it that, though.

[There's a pause.]

A lot of interesting things happened in the 2400s. That's when the first Martian colony was established!

...I'm Lika. Who are you?

W-Wow, uhm, 2007? M-March of, I mean.

That's five of you from within two years of each other.

This is bizarre.
