Since I was in highschool this kind of thing came up pretty often for me. I guess its because older people usually love to sit and chat because generally no one listens. Im fortunate that I got to do this with a great aunt, who just died recently. She was 92, never married,no kids, held the same job for 50 years, etc. She definately saw many many of the things we see as big events in the last 100 years.
A woman that lived across the street from me when I was in my late teens similarly loved to do so. She died like 3 yrs ago at 96. Her husband died when she was 74, she became a teacher in er early 20's and ended up working as the principal of the same school for over 30 years. She also had no kids and pretty much golfed and mowed her own lawn till the last yr of her life. She never ended up in ther nursing home per se, but ended up dying in the lobby of one on a visit to see her sister. Funny how life is. So totally find someone it is well worth it and the stories and life lessons learned are immeasurable.

I love when i do get to talk to older people. It's amazing to see how they feel when someone actually listens to them, i hope when i'm old i find someone that will listen to me, even though i will have nothing useful to say, lol.
