Of all the people in the world Toby Ziegler could have expected to show up on his doorstep that night, C.J. was not one of them. They talked - it felt like old times again, even for the shortest of times.
She had to go. She’d seek her solace in the arms of another tonight.
He was foolish to feel it could be anything otherwise. Danny cared about her, Danny loved her, and he’d treat C.J. right.
Yet, as he watched her get in the car and drive off into the night, he felt a twinge of something akin to regret.
She’d be with Danny, he’d go to jail, and somehow, the sun would still rise in the morning.
And still, he was fine with that.
