[For Casey]

She just had to keep telling herself that it was absolutely no big deal what she was doing. It was dinner. People ate dinner. They prepared dinner. They liked dinner and so did Sarah. So it was just a dinner to thank Casey and so what if he had saved her life and so what if she sort of maybe potentially liked him slightly ( Read more... )

Casey missed his scanning equipment. Not that he really expected anyone on this island to try to breach his defenses too much, seeing as there didn't seem to be much point of secrets with such a small government, but you couldn't really be too careful. Still, he had a small peephole in his door so he could check that the person knocking was, in fact, who they said they were.

Satisfied that all was as it should be, he straightened his tie (a semi-disgusting polyester, but as least it was a normal shade of blue and not neon like everything else the clothes box gave him) and opened the door.

"Hi," he said, having forgotten anything else he might have had it in mind to say. Even though it was just dinner.

Her shoulders were slightly raised from her tense stressed state and she was beaming away because she didn't think of anything else at that precise moment. "It's at my gazebo," she explained, hurriedly, because they were words and were far better than awkward silence. "I thought you might like to get away from the hut and it's completely screen in."

And maybe while he was enjoying the outdoors, he could ignore her horrid cooking. At least it had been edible, last she checked.

"Sounds good. No bugs." Casey realized too late that insects were probably not the best dinner conversation, but as they weren't really anywhere near the food yet, he kept going. "Not from the food. I'm not worried about that. Food's food. I'll eat just about anything. Even bugs, if that's all there is to keep from starving. The teach you that in training. For the National Guard," he added, because that was his cover.

"I'm sure you won't feed me bugs on purpose, and not even on accident, with the screening in thing."

"Well, so long as you don't have too high of expectations," she clarified anxiously, because the meat had been slightly tough and maybe she shouldn't have soaked the veggies for so long, but it was a lesson to learn later and she nodded, as if to punctuate just how very okay it would all be. "Come on then!" A brisk breath and she was back on track. "Before it gets cold or wild animals sneak in and eat it."

And perhaps she couldn't help a look at what he was wearing and she hid a smile, trying not to let herself get too girlish. "You look very nice. If I'd known you were going to dress so, I'd have worn more than a jumper and pair of denims," she admitted.
