I just finished watching Bill Maher clarify his "coward" comments on Jay Leno. I didn't think a clarification was necessary. I am concerned that everyone will censor themselves, or that we will require it of one another when speaking of this crisis. Already people are taking issue with the use of the word "crusade" to describe this. Please.

This week I was thinking about political correctness and it's place during this modern war. This war is against many individuals, but no one nation. This enemy does have a common element in that they are fanataical Islamic fundamentalists. Of course, there are also plenty of Islamic people who are not opponents in this war. In wars we have had in the past, we have mocked the enemy with names and ethnic slurs. We have even gone as far as imprisioning Americans who shared the nationality.
But, in this war, I think the rules of Political Correctness (and good sense, in this case.) help the cause. If an ethnic slur were a rallying point, even just domesticaly among the public and not the government, middle eastern members of the coalition would be offended and over time would want no part of the war.
Hmm. The more I type the dumber I sound. I will quit while I am ahead.

You are right about telling how you feel. It clears the air and makes friendships stronger.
