[Armand is visibly upset, especially to anyone who knows him well. He won't look at the camera, but he seems to be keeping his voice calm, but maybe a little monotone, like he's rehearsed this.]

I tried to request this before, but I was in no fit shape to communicate. Is there anyone on board with the technical expertise to make a language ( Read more... )

Armand...you seem upset.

You don't need to worry. It will pass. [Maybe not quickly, but eventually.]

But I am worried. Surely all of your friends are worried to see you in such a state.

Not all of them. Apparently some would rather not be bothered.

The last I heard of him was during the flood when Wardens became children. Otherwise, he's made no public network updates and made no attempt to contact me since he arrived.

[And she's....more bothered by this than she wants to let on.]

As for a translation device, I have something, but because of other functions it performs I'd rather it not get into the public domain. What I can do is reverse-engineer it and see if I can made a simpler translation unit.

A simpler one would likely be ideal, Mlle. Sato, since last time I needed such a thing I was a small child.

And thank you for the news about Captain Harkness. I found him once, in the bar, so I know for certain he's here or was at that moment. I don't think he even knows you're on board. I was not comfortable telling him that. [Which is his way of asking her not to blame Jack, but he knows there's something between them he doesn't completely understand.]

I finished on another project a few days ago [time lock lol] so I'll start looking into it today. I should have something by way of a prototype design in a week or so, unless there's anything unexpectedly complicated about its design.

[Aaand we're not even going to talk about Jack any more :c]

I appreciate it. Do... will it be able to translate spoken speech? [Also not telling Tosh he can't read or write at age five.]

Which languages do you need?

Personally, one that translates into French and is easy enough for a child to use. I thought a more universall one would be nice helpful for people at large. There is a polyglot of languages on board, many of them non-human.

Universal translators are more difficult to make. I'll work on those. [ Goddamn you Green Lantern power rings. How do you work? ]

But a French to English one should be easy enough. Will voice to text as well as text translation be fine?

That will help in many situations. [Armand is not about to admit that he could not read even French very well at five.]

Unfortunately I never had the pleasure of meeting him yet. [Tenses are strange to Time Lords.] I believe some of the Federation fellows are familiar with translation devices.

Perhaps this time you will meet him.

I have had two offers, one of which is more quick and personal and will help in some situations.

I only saw him when I was a kid. I posted to him twice and have received no response.

I was afraid of that. I hoped he'd talk to you.

Are you worried?

Yes and no. It's the fourth time there's been someone by the name of Captain Jack Harkness here, Armand. It's entirely possible he's not the same man we knew.

They can't all be different, can they?
