01: Avec un Coeur plein d'Espoir

Feb 02, 2009 23:24

This was explained. I have no excuse for being so surprised. I thought that our discussions would be more on a board on the wall or perhaps a newsletter. This... well, I know it was explained. I simply didn't pay the explanation enough mind ( Read more... )

Armand St. Just? I...oh my god. I read your book in high school! I love 'Pimpernel'! Oh my god!

It's really nice to meet you! I'm Daniel Jackson, welcome to the barge.

We had a staff recently, but after an incident, they all left. I really don't know what's going to happen next.

You know me, M. Jackson? Ah, it must be because of my brother-in-law, yes? I didn't think Percy's secrets would last forever.

Thank you for the welcome. Do you suppose we're all going to do for ourselves now? I have to admit I'm more used to that.

Ah, yeah. I must have met Percy somewhere and he told me about you or something like that.

I honestly don't know. I think we'll have do take care of ourselves, but I don't really know if the people here will be up for the task.

You've met Percy? Great... God. Has he been here?

I can't imagine him needing to come here. That is food for thought.

I cannot cook, but what other tasks were taken care of for us? I would suppose there are too many here to let it all happen catch as catch-can, especially with the inmates.

I'm rambling, aren't I? Tis a bad habit.

Thank you. I hope being here proves to be a good experience for us all. Do you find it so?

There is nowhere else I would rather be.

Welcome to the Barge, Mr. St. Just. I'm Spencer Reid, another warden, and if you need help settling in or anything, I'll see what I can do.

Good day, M. Reid. Do you know how this... journaling system works? I appreciate reaching out to others, but it would be nice to keep some of my musings private.

I am worried about the lack of staff too. Getting along without servants in Paris wasn't difficult--there were restaurants and laundries and tailors! I don't need someone to pick up after me, but I can't cook. Tea perhaps. And toast if there's bread.

If you don't wish to have any one read what you write or to make it for a private recipient, you can arrange it so that only those you designate can read what you write.

There was a more...numerous staff up until a couple weeks ago. We're still sort of recovering from a takeover.

Thank you for your kind advice. I suppose we'll work things out eventually.

Welcome to the Barge M. St. Just. I'm James Bond. We recently had a series of events that caused mass chaos, we're just now recovering.

Anything you could help with would probably be best. I think someone is going to organize who does what.

Hello, M. Bond. Is there anything in particular I could do to help clean things up? M. Jackson above explained about the missing staff. I'm used to being self-reliant as much as I can be, but there are considerations with a population this size, aren't there?

I too welcome you, mein freund, and hope others do not trouble you... too much. Beyond the norm, I mean. Ah, maybe I should not have said anything. I am Kurt Wagner, seemingly the resident tour guide when no others offer. If you require such a guide, let me know then, ja?

You're German, M. Wagner? I know some things, but I admit I'm no cook (and these devices are nerve-wracking). I'd be happy for a brief tour if you have the time.

I am, yes. Probably one of the few, but I do not mind.

I'm free to do the tour whenever I am not working in the kitchen--which ties in to your question about the staff, so I'll explain. For a while, the Barge had nurses, waiters, cooks; anything you might imagine. They were faceless and spoke little, but did their duties quite efficiently. Then they disappeared for no reason. So. Residents of the Barge have taken up the assignments. I offered to help serve at meals given my unique methods of travel.

In short, whenever you wish to travel all six levels of the Barge, then I'm usually free as well.

Since I am from France, we're nearly neighbors.

Do you know anything about the cooking or do you mostly deliver the food?

I will have to ask you about this ability. The Admiral, of course, warns people that others may be different or unusual, but I haven't encountered anything odd other than a man who seems to know my brother-in-law.
