Wally sacrifices himself to save Iris

I feel like part of my heart had just died. Iris will be so heartbroken and guilty that because of her, her nephew sacrificed himself to save her. Barry will probably feel guilty for being so helpless in not protecting his family from such heartache. This would be so tragic and it needs to be written.

Seconded.

She packs up the posters first. The wall decorations that said that this was someone’s room and marked the personality and territory of the owner. The room looked so blank without them. She wondered if Hal would like a poster of himself, but her hand squeezes the poster tight at the thought, crinkling it, she’s lost so much already ( ... )

*sniff* 8( Barry needs to come home so they can comfort each other!! D:

Also, the phrase is "cross to bear", as in to endure or, in literal terms, carry.

Dammit! I debated over that one, but sleep deprived is never a good state to be making grammar decisions.

I think my heart broke again when reading this and this time, tears are spilling down my cheeks.

Oh my god, it was so heart wrenching watching Iris packing away all of Wally's belongings and go through the mourning process; Iris going through Anger to Despair until finally Acceptance. Reading about how Barry is trying to hope that Wally's death would just go away shows that he feels truly hopeless and perhaps is in slight denial. Maybe he believes that if he goes fast enough around the world, he could reverse the rotation of the earth and reverse time to the point right before Wally had to give up his life (I remember that from the first Superman Movie). And, the line "she recognizes this as her cross to bare," was just a beautiful addition that shows the feelings of guilt Iris must be feeling and made me cry even more.

You are one awesome writer!anon and this was just perfect; even if it was a 'minifill', it was still great.

Awww, what a flattering reply! *wipes away anons tears*

I hadn't thought about that, I just thought that that's what speedsters do when everything is out of control, they run. Barry's not really thinking straight, but that idea might well be in the mix of emotions. I think he, along with Iris, slightly blames her for it, though he doesn't want to and Iris kinda sees that.

Thankyou!

Yeah, I overanalyzed the situation. I just rewatched the Superman movie like 3 days ago and it's still fresh in my head, so my brain just went to that scenario. But, the human heart is hard to truly analyze. Anyway, the fact that he has the nagging belief that he should be blaming Iris for Wally's death must be causing him inner turmoil and pushing him even further to run away from the situation.

And, you're welcome :)

Well shit.

That's really sad... And that Iris is cleaning up his room, instead of his parents... D:

Indeed.

I always thought Wally might live with or have a room at Iris and Barry's place as well, but I can also see the whole family falling apart (and kinda blaming Iris) and it being left to her to sort stuff out.
