licky friends

After nearly a year I'm relieved that Tobey and The Bun have formed a fairly amicable relationship of sorts. The Bun's adoration of Tobey has always been unrequited, since Tobey views him as a rival and is uncharacteristically clingy whenever we're playing with The Bun. When The Bun was a tiny baby we allowed Tobey to sniff him and we made extra effort to cuddle him and give him treats and belly rubs, but he was still quite jealous of the new addition to the family. He's definitely not a lap dog by any means, except when he sees us holding The Bun; then he will quite literally try to climb into someone's lap for a cuddle, too.

Ever since The Bun began crawling, Tobey has kind of realised okay, fine, so he's here to stay and now he more or less ignores The Bun, save the occasional lick on his face, or when he sits under the high chair during mealtime, waiting for treats to fall to the ground. Sometimes he will bring The Bun his smelly ball to throw, but we try not to let The Bun handle Tobey's toys because he can be quite possessive about them. When he gets tired of The Bun following him around, he hides under the armchair to rest, and all The Bun can do is crouch next to the chair, babbling and pointing.

I hope The Bun and Tobey will grow into a loving friendship. Right now they both seem so similar that we find ourselves switching their names around by mistake. They both have a similar vocabulary and their world revolves around family, food and play. The Bun loves Tobey so much that he often goes over and points at a little photo frame that we have at home with Tobey's picture in it, grinning wildly. I'm banking on it being one of his first words!
