From Ice to Flooding

Jan 12, 2014 19:37

The icicles I posted pictures of a few days ago are gone now. It rained steadily and hard all day Saturday and the night before so our basement flooded. No damage at all, but the hole in the basement floor where the sump pump sits kept filling up and overflowing. Naturally, the pump picked yesterday to quit working so hubby and I spent most of ( Read more... )

Thank you so much for sharing this clip. Their movements are so fluid. The only part of the U.S. Nationals I got to see was today's Men's Finals.

I have the men's final from today recorded, but haven't watched it yet. Yesterday was the big day: women's short program and ice dance final in the afternoon, mean's short program and women's final last night. I'm sorry you missed them.

Me too! But I was happy to read this online: "NBC will present the Smucker’s Skating Spectacular exhibition gala, featuring the members of the U.S. Olympic team, on Sat., Jan. 18 at 4 p.m. ET." I'll try to catch that.

They mentioned that during the skating Saturday and I've already marked it in my TV Guide. Exhibitions are great because the stress of being judged doesn't exist.

Ugh. Sorry about the flooding issue. And, yes, water is VERY heavy. Have you gotten a new sump pump? Glad the icicles are gone.

And, I had no idea we had a team expected to win in ice dancing. For some reason, I thought that was an event the US tended to be weak in. I really don't keep up with things, though.

After one trip upstairs, I smartened up and split the load into two buckets. No, we haven't looked into a new sump pump yet.

I've been watching skating competitions since the days of Dorothy Hamill (really dating myself here) and during ALL that time, the Russians dominated ice dance. But in the last 10-15 years, the best Russian coaches and many of the winning Russian competitors have come to the US and Canada to coach ice dancing. The US now has the best ice dance program in the world. There are even two Russian pairs training in Colorado!!

I'll be seeing them in person in May and I can't wait. We saw them live once before and they are a sight to see. Just incredible!

Oh lucky you. From 1970 to 1990, I attended every National Championship and several Worlds, if I could afford the trip. I saw Stars on Ice once at Portland, ME since we've lived in NH, but I like competitions better.

I'm glad your flooding problem wasn't that bad. Yes, water is very heavy!

After the first trip upstairs, I smartened up and split the load into two buckets. D'oh! Sometimes I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer. ;>)

I'm glad your flooding wasn't worse than it was, though getting a new pump or the old one fixed will be a pain! And carrying the water up the steps is No Fun, indeed.

Thanks for sharing that clip of the skaters. I watched the women last night and the men's competition today, but missed the pairs and ice dancing, so it was a treat to see this couple skate. They are so fast and fluid!

We haven't decided what to do about the sump pump. Even when it was working it wasn't a good solution for us because the water had to go up so high to be clear of the house.

Fast and fluid describes Meryl and Charlie perfectly. Usually it's the woman everyone watches, but Charlie commands your attention, too.
