From Ice to Flooding

The icicles I posted pictures of a few days ago are gone now. It rained steadily and hard all day Saturday and the night before so our basement flooded. No damage at all, but the hole in the basement floor where the sump pump sits kept filling up and overflowing. Naturally, the pump picked yesterday to quit working so hubby and I spent most of

I remember sometimes my dad's basement would flood, and he'd get out the little pumps and pump it out. That's a lot of work, but having to take it out in buckets must've been very hard.

We have a portable pump that we lower through the trap door in the workshop above a large crawl space. That space sometimes floods when the snow melts quickly or if we have heavy, steady rain. But the sump pump is much smaller and fits permanently into a cut out made for it in the basement floor.

Did you get a chance to watch the exhibition performances Saturday? The showed the winning long programs in pairs, dance, men's and ladies' singles as well as the exhibition routines. It was all wonderful.

Yes, me, too.

Today I'm recording the European Skating Championships. We don't get them on TV here every year. We probably are this year because with the Olympics on the horizon, the interest in figure skating is huge here.

I was trying to watch it but a neighbor came in and we wound up talking through the entire thing. Sorry you're having flooding problems. I guess that's one of the downsides of having a basement.

Today NBC is airing the European Championships. We don't get them on TV here every year. We probably are this year because with the Olympics on the horizon, the interest in figure skating is huge here in the US.
