Leon slapped the grisly photographs onto the desk. But instead of flinching away, Patterson smiled from behind his sunglasses.
“Twenty-seven victims.” Leon growled. “We’ve got your prints on the murder weapons, your blood at the crime scenes. You’re not getting out of this, asshole. California’s a death penalty state. You’re going to get what’s coming to you.”
Again, that smile.
Frustrated, Leon snatched the shades from his face. “Why did you kill those women?”
The animalistic rage, the utter contempt he saw in Patterson’s eyes sent shivers down Leon’s spine.
“Why?" Patterson repeated softly, “Because I could. So I did."
