Yeah, I think more things are being done by citizens like yourself than the fucking government. I had to bring Evan ice and water from Waco for God's sake.

I'm going to go volunteer tomorrow, so I'm sure I'll be even more pissed off the more I get involved.

Nothing has been taken to some of the far areas of Galveston. Like Bolivar, Crystal Beach, etc etc. There are fucking REPORTERS there but no FEMA or help or anything.

WTF, that's disgusting. I haven't heard anything about it, so I'm not sure if it's made the news.

Even so, you should contact the local media outlets and let them know about this. It may help, you never know. Or even just report it to a news blog or something. Anything that would get the word out about how they are handling this.

Oh all the local media is reporting all about this. I just don't think it's making national news because apparently people don't care anything about us down here in Houston/Galveston. The whole world was all over Katrina but there is nothing going on about Ike.

Try reporting it to a well-known blog then, because that could pick up national coverage if it gets spread around. It's awful and the news should definitely be reporting it! Or even report it to the BBC website, they show more concern for American news than the American media does.

God, I so agree with this.

Oh, how lovely to know the Bush administration really got a handle on all its problems running FEMA. *spits and curses them*

I know. His holiness is "making a visit" tomorrow to the area. I hope some of these people who are just now receiving water and supplies tell him off for making them suffer so.

Agreed. The government learned nothing from it's handling of Katrina aid. The year after Katrina, we had some tornadoes come through the Orlando area of Florida on Christmas Day that destroyed entire towns, there were so many and they were extremely powerful.

FEMA never even showed up. Period.

Holy crap. That is absolutely disastrous. The only Ike coverage I've seen now was on the Today show, none of the local media outlets are reporting about this.

Is there anything non-local people can do? Any non-profit associations that are down there with aid? and I also suggest taking this on a bigger scale. The government will probably try to blow this over, but we need to let them know we will have none of that.

I'm not sure about non profit aid groups down here.. besides the Red Cross. I'll look around tomorrow when I go volunteer and let everyone know.
