I read a longer version of this story this morning. It looks like in your version some of the best parts are cut. For example:

Boras says another important issue is the health of longtime Yankee Stadium announcer Bob Sheppard. Due to illness, Sheppard did not announce the 2007 ALDS games at Yankee Stadium, and Boras said his client is concerned that Sheppard's ailments may not resolve themselves for the 2008 season.

"Alex is the best player in the game," Boras said, "and as such, it's important for his at-bats to be announced by the deep, resonant voice of the best announcer in the game. The Yankees can't guarantee that right now."

Sometimes Boras just goes too far, I think.

It was either this or Alex's concerns over the new clubhouse catering staff and the impact they would have on the 2008 lunch menu.

I think Boras was also concerned that some members of the grounds crew could leave and that the quality of the infield grass could decline.

Ugh. I can't take this shit. How about Boras just shuts the hell up and tells us when Alex has actually definitely made a decision?

This is classic Boras. All he's doing is trying to drive up Alex's price, which I can't blame him for doing. It's his job ( ... )

i'm not sure I can ever take Boras seriously again after the Matsuzaka contract. The Red Sox paid $51 million just to talk to him they were coming off their pathetic third place finish in 2006, and needed pitching. Ted Lilly and Gil Meche got contracts paying them more than $10 million/year, and Boras could only get Matsuzaka, THE BEST PITCHER IN THE WORLD, $50-something million over six years. Pathetic.

PS -- my favorite real part of that article is this: "Boras could be bluffing about how concerned A-Rod is to try and get the Yankees to up their offer. But several teams would probably be willing to sign A-Rod to a multi-year deal in the neighborhood of $300 million to $400 million so you can't blame him."

Seriously, did that writer just copy and paste lines from an e-mail Boras sent him?

Yeah, this is exactly why the $400 million figure is ridiculous.

Oh also, speaking of Matsuzaka, he's pitching tomorrow with the postseason on the line. Unfortunately, he's pitching against Jake Westbrook, who contrary to what his last start against the Sox might indicate, actually sucks.

He didn't do too poorly against us, though.

Oh, who am I kidding? Game seven in Fenway? That series was over the minute they lost game 5.
