I wrote this ficlet for dshael , who got one of my threads over a milestone in the Support Stacie Auction. Her prompt was “Nine, Jack, Jack’s past” - this can also serve as a summary. :) Set somewhere between TDD and Boomtown, but closer to the latter.

I love this turn of phrase. We see rage from Jack so seldom at this stage, and it lets us see facets of the Doctor that we don't really, otherwise.

I love that you picked out that sentence, because I actually worked that one over several times. It went through several "mixed metaphor" stages before I got it right.

I started writing this with the notion of Jack's pain, and I wasn't sure myself how the Doctor would handle it until he... handled it. :)

This is great. I always assumed that Jack was working up the nerve to ask the Doctor to help with Grey when they got separated. I wonder how much of canon!Jack's drive to find the Doctor that accounts for....

OH. :) Thank you! I love the way your Doctor is so patient and compassionate with an overwrought Jack. And takes Jack into his own past even though he knows better. Jack snarling and growling and getting stopped cold by the Doctor.

Thank you! I'm glad you like what I did with your prompt. :) I figured Gray was a good subject for a fic this length, since we already know the story. "Those missing two years" would take much longer to deal with (and will, eventually, when "Deal" gets around to them *g*).
