I don't like how people rate movies by the people in them. I don't care who's in them, what about the PLOT? I'm not watching it for the actors. ^^
I don't think it's a bad thing to be more familiar with Japanese actors either. (I managed to educate a whole roomful of my parents' friends about Yuri Lowanthall and another VA I forget about, though, when I used their names in a "put a celebrity name in the hat" kind of game. *evil grin*)
*high five* I always watch movies for the plot, the cast doesn't really mater unless they are really bad. Don't worry about knowing more seiyuu than American actors, it's the same case for me, although I'd have more of an excuse since I'm not American...
Ah, the lead-follow thing, I think it's kind of an Asian thing? Sadly, I grew up in this sort of environment. :/
In America we really stress being creative and thinking for yourself, so I'm not really accustomed to the lead-follow thing. What gets me is something like this:
My friend bought cleaner. The cleaner said it was meant for the kitchen. She bought it to use for her bathroom though. Her co-teacher, who is Korean, made a big fuss about it saying that she couldn't use it in the bathroom because the box said it was for the kitchen, even though it would work in the bathroom. This drove her absolutely nuts. I guess it's because in America we're encouraged by other people to find multiple uses for one item, while in Korea the specialize items a lot more.
