I live!

Yeah, it's been a while since I've had anything resembling a substantial post on here. Blame life. :D

I made it home okay, as my last post says. Many and large thanks to lynxgriffin for being chauffeur (and I totally owe you gas money ( Read more... )

I feel for you. My mom is the exact same way. She doesn't know about Daisychain, or Paixao, or anything like that where I've been involved. Most of my RP friends are 'friends from college' which sucks to have to say...

As for religion... mom thinks I'm still non-practicing Catholic...I'm agnostic now, so talking to her (or any other member of my family) just won't work. I tend to keep to myself on that and politics.

I just...yeah, fandom seems to be the motherly turn-off. Sucks sometimes. ;;;

Oh, my mom doesn't know about my RP friends. :D

I just tried to say something I learned in my (Church of Christ) religion class that's not normally accepted in the Roman Catholic doctrine. It was an interesting discussion, but it was friendly at least.

I could make an icon for you if you tell me what you want.

Out of curiosity, why do you want to tell your mom about LJ, Paixao, and Daisychain? It doesn't seem like you'd need to, but of course given that I have very little or no interaction on any of these fronts it's possible I'm just missing the necessity.

That would be spiffy. :3 It's lyrics from a church hymn that won't all fit on one 100x100 graphic:

We are called
We are chosen
We are Christ for one another
We are promised to tomorrow while
We are for Him today
We are sign
We are wonder
We are sewer
We are seed
We are harvest
We are hunger
We are question
We are creed

...slightly epically long, but what can I say. :D;

I don't really like keeping things from people at all (doubly so for my family), so having such a big part of my time and writing be a secret doesn't sit well. Coming home after so long and finding nothing's changed...I shouldn't really be surprised, but it still sucks.

Just the text then? Or is there an image theme associated with that?

We should make a support group or something.

Hahaha, this entry reminded me of how similar our moms are. My mom used to have the same attitude about my writing fantasy and fanfiction, although she mistakenly referred to it as "fanflicks." It really frustrated me because I felt that she was belittling the effort I put into my writing. I realized a few years ago that her comments were not meant to belittle but to show misunderstanding. I then started coming at fanfiction from the angle that I am writing short stories to improve my writing abilities for greater projects such as a book or to practice more effectively expressing myself, a quality that is extremely valuable once you enter the workforce. Also, tell your mom that writing fantasy is more difficult than writing non-fiction and some fiction. Non-fiction books and some fiction novels are all based on reality. Fantasy is not backed by reality, so it takes a great deal of skill to successfully compose fantasy ( ... )

You're a braver person than I, Di. The few conversations I've had with my mom about writing, fantasy, and fandom in general have ended...poorly. She's convinced it's bad for me, and I honestly don't see that changing anytime soon.

As far as the "writing better" idea goes, Mom would just say that's why I'm an English Major. I might be defeating myself before I even start, but...argh. It's intimidating.

I think I'll bring it up again if I ever get my novel started in any form. Right now it's a bit of a moot point. I SHALL WRITE IN SECRET. *heroic pose*

You're right, I can't outdo Fanflicks. XD Fan-made movies, anybody?
