rice cooker woes, the pains of fandom, and upending my whole life plan (ONE OF THESE IS DIFFERENT)

So, while I've got a solid two-three months to think about it first, I am at this point about 90% positive that, when the time comes for me to buy a house next spring, I'll be buying a place in New Orleans rather than Chicago. ( explanation for them as are interested )

Maybe your rice cooker can't cook that little amount of rice. Do you always cook less than a cup and a half of rice in the rice cooker?

Me, I'll just get a pot and cook the rice in it. lol.

I'm also one ep behind Fringe. I'll be marathoning it with the new ep. Hee.

Well, it used to be able to cook that small an amount without any trouble. I mean, I am just cooking for me, and I tend to cook my rice as it goes. Maybe I should go in larger batches and just save it ... though I still want to know why the cooker is acting differently.

Sounds like the fuzzy logic has died on your rice cooker. My guess -- is that I see a new rice cooker in your future.

Hmmph -- it is but one year old. Though I suppose I've used it heavily.

Hmm, it does sound like you need a new rice cooker. Even if the water isn't enough there shouldn't be burned rice just too hard to eat rice.

The heating element sounds busted. You could try adding more water? Though I'm not sure if that'll improve things.

I've tried more water -- it works with larger amounts of rice -- but not smaller ones. I'll keep experimenting a bit before I buy again. Thanks for the advice!

Do you like vegetables and rice? I like putting about a can of mixed veggies or frozen veggies + water in with my rice as it cooks and when I put that in first, the rice is less likely to stick to the bottom.

Never considered this! I do like veggies and rice, but as my cooker is also a steamer, I tend to steam fresh veggies while the rice cooks. Then I saute mushrooms and some sauce in another pan, mix that with the steamed veggies at the end, and put it over the rice. This makes me happy. I could consider something else to make the rice work, though.

That sounds happy-making! Mine is not a steamer, so I use these recipes where I do it all at once and call it good.

*flails* As someone who considers Chicago her heart's home, I understand your connection to NoLa. But I will miss you terribly :(

I'm here for a while yet, so never fear! And I know I'll keep returning to Chi-town to visit. And to shop. And to hang.

Which reminds me, we must get together soon -- not only for general hanging purposes, or for me to get my swag, but also I found something for you in a NoLa thrift store ...
