It could be, perhaps, that my shoes are too tight.

Is it my imagination or does there seem to be a distinct lack of holiday spirit this year? I know I'm having a hard time mustering any- I haven't even set the tree up, and I usually do that in the first week of December. I'm kind of just waiting for it all to be over with. And I've heard similar sentiments from all over: from various LJ posts I've ( Read more... )

I ... I just can't relate. I'm sorry. I have been in the Christmas spirit since about November 19th or so. I have noticed a certain amount of holiday blahs amongst others I know, but no more so than usual. If you figure out what it is, I'd love to hear.

I think it's the snow.... Personally, I think we should just push it back 2 weeks.... that will give me time to accomplish all I need to, without feeling rushed!

I was kind of thinking snow as well (a sort of 'winter peaked too soon' kind of thing), at least for the locals, but the phenomenon seems to be more widespread than that.

I thought it was just me.

What with being away from home/preparing to move... plus my stupid paper that is not going well... plus the fact that I still have scads of shopping to do (and it's time to break out the riot gear before heading to the malls)...
And only a week to do it all.

I just want to hide under my covers and wait for it to be all over.

Between the fact the snowstorm hit Victoria at the same time that most people prep for the festive season, and with the windstorm taking out power to stores and homes, this took the wind out of the sails for most people. Even our own effort of holiday spirit has been a bit rushed.

It was also anticipated to be a very busy christmas season and with the weather, I'd think it won't go crazy until the later part of this week.

No holiday spirit out here either. I don't think my mom is eve going to put up the tree and she's hosting!!

I'm all for cancelling Christmas. I'm not usually a grinch but I seem to be this year. Bah humbug!

As for theories, I don't have one. As a whole this city has more money, more luxuries, more to celebrate, but fewer lights, less Christmas music, fewer concerts, no plays. I don't know what gives.

What with the storms and all the other personal storms going on this year I'm not really suprised that christmas spirit is a little low.
(I was hoping for some at Yule..even though I had fun, it didn't really feel Christmassy...politics I guess.)
If I could get away with it I'd just rather stay home this year, but I don't want to disapoint my parents.

That really seems to be the root of it: people just have a lot of other stuff happening in their lives, and that is taking precedence over dealing with all the time-consuming parts of the holidays.

totally dude, I've barely done any christmas shopping(I can't stand christmas crowds). I just want to avoid it all.
I'll be going to an smallish Yule celebration on the 21st and I'm really looking forward to that more than anything else.
