I've never heard Dean referred to as Ace, which leads me to believe that it's definitely a fanon thing. (I don't read much SPN fanfiction.)

As for Sparky, look at the profile information at john_elizabeth.

I think "Ace" came from Ridley C. James's Brotherhood 'verse. I'm not positive, though. I've only ever read snippets of it, but it's well known and one of the characters calls Dean "Ace".

I've read all her stuff, and you could be right, she might well have been the first. She's among my favorite Supernatural authors...but I got the feeling I've seen it in a bunch of places. But you know what I'll email her, see if it was her ^_~ Thanks for the idea
