Quite easy to make, in fact, and extremely tasty to boot. now, i dont normally pay much attn. to the Kentucky Derby, but i noticed today that ( Read more... )

I wish they'd had two of those bar books at the bookstore, for the one I gave you.

Will it be of use, do you think?

(oh yeah, when is a Gabe-based drink coming out? I need to concoct something when I drop in unannounced to his apt)

Btw, that is great looking, and I'd likely use it on a cold day. Roaring fire with one of those was one of my best memories after a day of skiing. I'm not too fond of the utter warm, and this was relaxing in place of tea.

the julep is a drink that is both festive and mellow.

i used the Knob 9 that gab gave me for the first one, which has a great taste that juts get better as the mint soaks amid the sugars.

this 2nd go (it was a horse named I'll Have Another, after all), uses Bulleit which is a great basic bourbon (whereas the Knob 9 is a reserve stock that is exceptionally smooth). this 2nd julep is a bit more aggressive, but we just had fiery beef chuck burritos of the grill in honour of Cinco de Mayo, so this drink does well to quench the fire.

the bar book will be of great use, and will surely gather all of the necessary smudges, spills and stains you find on favourite cookbooks.

as for Gabster ... hmm, as easy as it is to think gin, his love of the pozole (a personal request that i make it on his next SF journey, which i shall oblige) makes me think of something more latino based, something with tequila or mezcal, maybe a pisco or a good spanish rum. clearly more experimentation is necessary.
