mint julep

the Kentucky Derby always features two things that state actually does well - horses and bourbon. the traditional drink to accompany the Run for the Roses is the mint julep. a decadent drink, or so it seems. Quite easy to make, in fact, and extremely tasty to boot. now, i dont normally pay much attn. to the Kentucky Derby, but i noticed today that the winning horse was named I'll Have Another. clearly, the time has come for another drink.

Mint Julep

3 oz. bourbon
6-8 mint leaves
1 T sugar

the proper preparation for this is similar to a mojito, only we use bouron instead of rum.
in a glass, combine an oz. of the bourbon, the mint leaves, and the sugar. take a spoon and muddle the mint leaves about, then let sit for about a minute. you dont want to chop them up or mash them to bits, you just want to agitate the leaves enuf to release some of the essence of the mint. then add the remaining bourbon and serve with plenty of ice.
i garnished this drink with a lime wedge, because i garnish everything with a lime wedge.
yums. this is gonna make doing work tonight even better.

speakin' easy
