¡EL SDO DOS!

12-8 +12, 21st place.
i feel like, in the past, i wouldve gone 8-12 at best in a tourney like this. i am a better player and won some games i shouldnt. i was forced to go scorched earth a lot of the time, grind it out and win ugly.
but sometimes it just isnt your weekend. i lost 3 games by over 200. in 5 of my losses, i never as much had a lead. i was pretty much losing all the time, and it wore me out a bit. it just didnt feel like it was meant to be this weekend. it happens.
but i can play better. i needed better focus, mainly. i've been too distracted and agitated of late. my game had little tempo or flow at all, compounded by some bad timing here and there and a lot of challenging racks which didnt produce desired results. for sure, 2 of the losses couldve been wins with some better allaround play. i wasnt sharp at all and i spazzed quite a bit. i pretty much deserved to be stuck at Table 14 the whole tourney, because i didnt really do anything.
but this was the best game of the weekend:

here is KC and i using the timetested strategy of drawing all the good tiles to crush the team of chaithedog and copyright1983 in the finals of the Trash Talking Team Tournament. KC and i won this last year as well. we are absolute terrors in these tourneys. my main strategy is to just let her do the playing (unlike me, she knows what she is doing) and i just talk shit the whole time. why mess with success? christ, if only the both of us could play this way all the time.
great weekend in San Diego. great rides up and down the Central coast with phonerz and Kenji, and we really enjoyed our mini-vacation here with all of our friends. bummed to be back, kinda, as i now get to return to my modest, pauperish existence and my endeavours to eek out a living tomorrow. but we had a great time and great meals and we found some imaginative uses for scrabble boards, such as this idea from rafij52 and tranonehalf ... the scrabble chess set!

Eric won the game. i actually annotated it. if only we could get it on crosstables somehow.
i was pleased that the tourney ran well and that our online coverage got off the ground and was enjoyed by many folks. we are going to do even more of this in the future, hopefully including the matchplay final and most certainly at the 5th Annual California Open Nov. 2-4 at the Parc 55 in San Francisco, which you'll all be attending anyway and dont give me any limp excuses as to why youre not attending. this was a great start.
