Yay! I got my first C&D letter today~~

Oct 07, 2011 14:07

Except it isn't even the least bit polite in any way, doesn't begin with even a simple "Hey". Fine if you think we're being rude by scanlating stuffs, but you could at least be a little bit kinder and add a "hey" in so that it doesn't sound like a 12 year old demanding sweets, so that it'll sound more polite like a real adult requesting for the ( Read more... )

rl, !worth remembering, wtf?, fuckthisshit, people

Well they didn't let the grass grow under their feet about Yuri-sensei. I agree as C&D's go, it's really lame but it's probably expensive to have lawyers draft it. Besides the whole point of DMG is to have the most work done while paying out little to no money. Better to have the teams send them than the actual organization.

I find it a little ironic they couldn't locate Zama's email. Considering it's on every release she does. Seriously. Super easy to find.

Thing is, I'm not asking them to get a lawyer to draft it, or asking the companies to write it - I'm asking them to just sound polite and proper when addressing someone. IMO, that's basic courtesy. I'm sure you don't want to find an email suddenly just telling you the topic right away without beginning with a proper way of greeting of some sort! :\

Exactly. But then again, it's possible they couldn't find it because they don't read the releases. They know we release, but they didn't read the releases. I'm curious as to why they sent it to me instead. o.o;;

I was just thinking since a lawyer or professional didn't draft it, it would explain the amateurish tone. At least there would have been a "To Whom it may concern".

That is a little odd they sent it to you and not Zama. Maybe you post there more? Who knows.

Nope? Zama posts more. :P It's probably because I have some posts as open posts as compared to zama's open posts. Oh well. Whatever. xD

P.S. It'll be better if you could at least begin your email with "Hey there" so that you are properly addressing a person. It was rather jarring to just have an email sent this way and I nearly ignored it until I looked carefully at the subject."

Whoa, you actually sent THAT? That...is awesome. XD

But seriously, what you said. Unpro-like. /nods

It got a lot, a lot better right now. Exchanged a few and the tone has changed considerably which is a great improvement. There are things that you need to learn. Most importantly, they are contracted somewhat to a real company. They may be earning shit, but they're still employed. They may have to report to their boss. If this is how they're going to start a letter, that's not a very good way of greeting someone, even if the content of your letter was all informative and filled with good intentions.

I have a feeling that perhaps the first person who typed it wasn't the same person typing the current few ones. /shrugs

Common courtesy and moral values are going to hell. What the hell happened? =3= (I have to be honest and say that I never really send any emails because I never needed to, so I can't say anything. XD)

(You will when you get to uni and stuff. But before that you should know to at least begin with a greeting anyway! Just not used to it, but it's better if you do use it. :D)

Exactly. I don't have much myself, but the least I always do is open doors for people, let people get down the bus first, send proper emails with proper greetings, smile...

Nowadays people are so rude. :\

But the email is so sweet right now it seems written by someone entirely different. :O

P.S. I'll reply PM in awhile. xD

:P

Courtesy is the most important thing if you want to even talk or suggest something. If they don't have it, no talk, no request, no obligations to listen to someone who has no manners. That's my policy.

Lololol, I bet we don't get enough workforce working for scan cause half the peeps went to DMG. Nice way to kill scanlations DMP. If I didn't give a damn about licensing, I would continue scanlating for people around the world except US. BUT, since I'm situated right smack in US and in the same state as the publisher... Well... :'D

DMG should just join Jmanga if they want the mangaka/publisher in Japan to profit. Jmanga's directly under the Japanese publishers, no?

I don't think that's an official C&D letter from DMP. C&D written by publisher's marketing department sounds a little different. :'D They always say "To whom it may concern" or something... /o/

totally mannn. But have you seen the article provided by sereith? Because the calculations there seem pretty convincing. Sure enough, more will leave... And yeah, US has EVERYTHING but you can't make things regional, no? Unless you make your site blocked to US users, which isn't easy...?

I dunno about jmanga though. :P

It isn't. It's just the team, as you can tell there's no professionalism or proper addressing at first whatsoever. But whatever, the C&D will come sooner or later anyway. What zama's thinking of doing is to introduce the idea that we've completely dropped it, and then suddenly very much later put the links and new releases back again. I think she'll probably do that.

She also CC'd the email to someone in emanga so I'm guessing DMG's too fucking lazy to have someone do that, thus they get cheap labor huh. DMG now sounds more like exploitation every single second...

The site isn't accessible in Malaysia, so I'm assuming it's region locked to US. Boo. Even if I bypass the isp block, they won't take foreign credit card of some country. ;( Lol, as convincing as it as, people won't leave if they're not doing it for the money. :) But meh, if I'm going to be a labour for a publisher, I rather be paid proper wages. This is human resource exploitation.

Or, ignore licensing like always. Aitsu no Daihonmei is semi-licensed as it is anyway...

Of course not, no blood will be drawn. :P I'm not so much of an ass to disregard licensing issues. xD

C&D is a Cease and Desist letter issued by companies to stop you from distributing an official release of materials that you hold no copyrights in. Basically, it's just a warning letter before they take it to court. Well, if all of us are outside the US region, no way they can take it to court unless it's extremely serious to some extent.

When JR had been licensed by Tokyopop, there were no scanlations going because TP was big and everyone was afraid of getting a C&D so no one touched it for the longest time ever. :P

Ummm, I wouldn't know? It's announced it's licensed by jmanga now but it's available only in North America. But since it's US licensing, I believe it's better not to touch it... :\
