So McDonald's are boldly leading us into the future with their voice-recognition ordering system. It gets orders right 85% of the time, which is about as good as their burger-flippers do, and is much cheaper!

I feel comfortable predicting McDonald's will have fully-automated drive-thru locations operating within 5 years- no humans handling, cooking or serving food at all, only a majordomo/technician on hand to oversee receiving of the ingredients and service the robots. Actually 5 years is probably too generous- it might happen in as soon as 2.

I'd love to see that. I think your time frame is overly optimistic, but we'll see. My worry is that the technology is *just* short of where it needs to be, and that instead of changing, the industry will manage to adjust to extreme wages, and go on as before. I'd be willing even to pay a somewhat higher price to know that my food was prepared by robots.

They already have self-serve kiosks in the U.K. I used one while I was in Liverpool.
