It is a campaign issue, just one that the media are burying. Why do you think Pete has basically 0% black support, and <10% Latino support? Mmm-hmmm. You and I both know those demographic blocs wouldn't vote for a gay guy for dog catcher, never mind president. Sure, Pete's a darling to queer-loving white liberals, but the POC base has a homophobic streak a mile wide, and there's no way in the world they will go to the polls to vote for a man with a husband. If Pete's the nominee, POCs will stay at home by the millions, which will be a complete catastrophe for downballot Dem candidates. Heck, with >50% Latino population now, even California could be in play for Trump.
Of course, the fact that the Democratic party embraces the three largest homophobic constituencies in the nation (blacks, Latinos, and Muslims) is ideological anathema and therefore must never be spoken of, either by the media, or by the party itself. The result will be that this critical weakness in St. Pete's appeal to broad swathes of Dem voters will be conveniently overlooked until convention time, and even beyond if he ends up getting the nom. But I don't think he has a chance. I believe Warren will soon bow out and throw her support to Bernie, which will put the dying old man's backing into solid majority territory and render him unstoppable... at least until his failing coronary arteries end his campaign for good.
