Yo son, how close to the Fairfax area do you live? I've been down there a couple times this year and I'm kind of in love with the area. I'm really thinking I want to move there but it seems a bit pricey, so if you can share any info and ideas I'd appreciate it.

i live about 20-30 minutes away from Fairfax and worked the opening of the Fairfax Wegmans in 2004. Since then I've driven up into the area many times, for the first month of my "training" once I was assigned to VA for Wegs, and have driven back up for store-to-stores a few times ( ... )

That makes me kinda sad because I really love the Fairfax and Reston areas. I'm still looking to see how much of a cost of living increase they'd give me if I transferred through work down here - it seems like it'd need to be quite a bit though.

Reston's a bit cheaper, though not by a whole lot. I mean, it's doable, but you end up spending a lot of money on rent and/or a mortgage.

Some parts of Reston/Herndon are cheap, but also real shady, so it's kind of not worth living there..

The cost of living in DC (closest I could find, they didn't list NOVA) is like 59% higher than Rochester, it's probably around 35-40% in most parts of NOVA. It's ridiculous.

I'm looking at apartments right now and want to strangle myself because it's so damned expensive.
