Charles/Erik - "I can fix you." warning: homophobia

Charles and Erik are very attracted to each other, but very deeply closeted. One night, all the UST becomes too much, and they sleep together. Afterward, they don't talk about it, go out of their way not to touch each other, or be alone together, etc.
Then, a day or two before Cuba, Charles offers to "fix" Erik (so that Erik will be totally straight; he does it partly because he knows Erik is just as conflicted/disturbed by what happened as Charles is, but also because if Erik is straight then that makes Charles' dilemma easier too). Erik FREAKS, and says very pointedly that he doesn't need to be fixed, because he's not a faggot. And then Charles is all well, neither am I.
And then Cuba happens, with all the above as baggage.
Totally okay with an angsty ending, or a happier one - but if the boys overcome their internalized homophobia and are able to be together, then I'd like it not to be easy for either of them and for the happy ending to be *earned*.
Ooh, what if they aren't able to get over it until years later? And then they're all like, "Why did we waste all this time?????" It could go pretty angsty if it went into the other movies

“What?” Erik whispers.
“These fucking - this wanting, this whatever. This peversion. I'd do it for you. I'd help you.”
“You stay out of my head.”
“It would be easier, wouldn’t it?” Charles half-shouts. “You can’t just let this come between us because you’re too afraid to admit that you’ve got an illness.”
“Are you offering to fix me?” Erik hisses. “Because I’m not a dog. I don’t need neutering.”
“Erik, for heaven’s sake, I’m offering to help. I don’t want this any more than you do.”
“Do you not? Why? Do I scare you, Charles?”
Erik grins; goes to place one hand on Charles’ shoulder.
“Don’t touch me, you goddamned-” he yelps, snatches his arm away, steps back as far as he can.
There is a pause, and he can hear the wind in the trees, and it sounds like regret.
“Oh, I see,” says Erik, unsmiling and vindicated. “You don’t want to help me, you want to help yourself. Scared of what I trigger, are you

This was....Well I agree with OP, perfect and painful.
Also, if you ever archive this or what not, "scheisse" should be "scheiße" with the ß instead of two ss.
