motivated-and rambling about my smp

My summer semester is OVER!!! Well, it won't officially be over til thursday morning but I just have my last art appreciation test, which will not be hard. Yesterday I had to give presentations in BOTH my classes. The worst was definitely art because I had to talk about my project and explain it. Very scary, but I did great. Matt, you just have to reinforce getting off the computer and going to bed. You have to figure out what might be reinforcing enough to motivate you. Also, setting the timer was really important. It signaled to me that I could get up and get my reinforcer (food at first) and that broke the behavior chain of doing stuff on the computer. Now I can get myself up in time without the timer, but I think I'm going to bring it back b/c I've been eeking my way past 11 a few nights lately.
As for the mornings, getting up with the alarm was surprisingly easy. A lot of the reason was I was used to responding to the timer, and also I had a lot of motivation to be successful.
People make the mistake of thinking they fail at behavior change due to lack of will power, when it's really lack of behavior change skills.
thanks for the lj cut info! I'll tag this entry so I can always find it!

Setting my alarm to anything earlier than noon doesn't really work for me.

I guess I'll see if it's any better once I start setting a timer at night. But since Jen and I sometimes watch the X-Files that late, I don't think it will always work...

EDIT: Hey, it's working for me! I ended up waiting for a while after my goals of 11 PM and 7 AM, but not as late as usual!
