"Ah, are you back with actual permission this time?"

As bizarre as their last encounter had been, it had left Hajime at least with some curiosity about their overworked chef. Too bad the flu had kicked in before he could explore it further, quite adeptly incapacitating both of them in a variety of ways since. Regardless, the ability to stop by the kitchen without too much apprehension was a welcome notion.

Currently out of uniform for the space between classes, the boy stood just inside the door with a brow raised at Sanji's lounging posture. "You have been off an awful long while, despite your best efforts. I do hope your skills haven't gotten rusty in your downtime."

It was actually the first time Sanji had seen the stern-looking kid dressed casually, and, well, not looking quite so stern. Hajime's tone was still as aggravating and lecturing as ever despite this, but this time the cook's hackles didn't raise themselves so eagerly (although a part of his typical sneer did return), as he looked up at the ceiling.

"Yes sir, no sir, three bags full, sir." Before it had been maddening to be talked to like this, but now it was more comedic, having the kid strut about and wag his finger like some miniature stuffed-up officer.

"Might have had the stuffing knocked out of me a bit, but that's hardly going to put a mark on my skills. Wanna test them?"

The boy shrugged, taking a few further steps into the kitchen. "If you think you're up to it, I suppose." Even out of his uniform, his posture was straight and practiced, his expression seemingly guarded, though his movements had lost their usual sharpness. It was good to see that the tightly-wound cook had managed to loosen up as well, and more visibly than Hajime had at that.

"Would you rather make something of your own, or does a guideline help you ease back into the work? I don't have any particular craving at the moment." He cast an idle glance to the spice rack. "I imagine you've had a great many ideas for dishes in your downtime, haven't you?" That was how the creative sort worked, wasn't it? Always coming up with something or other. Far be it from him to stifle progress.

Okay, that was condescending enough for Sanji's usual grumpiness to resurface alright, as he sent Hajime a glance that clearly read 'you're walking on thin ice, buster.'

The question was slightly odd, and certainly unexpected. It had been his supposition that Hajime didn't really have much insight as to the creative process, but it was true; being forced to stay still with little else but his room-mate's hacking and coughing for music Sanji's only refuge had been furiously thinking through new recipes and techniques to exercise upon his release.

"Well, yeah, I guess..." Sitting forwards again he propped himself up, his forearms balanced on his knees as he looked as uninterested as he could.

"You want to see if you like some of my ideas?"

Delirium peeked around the door, and then slipped into the kitchen, walking like a dancer in her bare feet, with a skip in her step.

"Hello! I came."

Immediately standing up in a more appropriately gentlemanly fashion, Sanji flashed one of his best welcoming grins at the girl. He recognized her instantly from the video conversation, but it had done no justice to how... well, colourful she was.

"Excellent! I'm glad! Er... I'm sorry, I don't think I asked you your name before?" He bowed with an elegant leg whilst looking slightly embarrassed at this oversight.

She shook her head. "No. You didn't. It's nice to see you." The butterflies followed her in a trail as she wandered over to him and patted him on the shoulder cheerfully.

Not quite sure how to respond to this answer, Sanji blinked with (pleasant) surprise at the pat on the shoulder, before smiling in his habitually goofy manner and deciding that names weren't really that important anyway. He watched one of the butterflies drifting through the air with the slight feeling that he might be in a dream of some sort.

"Nice to see you too..." He shook his head a little, trying to focus on the matter at hand. "So... you said you wanted to know if you can dance?"

Fletcher peeked his head into the kitchen, and smiled when he saw the cook there. "Mr. Sanji, you're back!"

"Fletcher!" A prize-winning smile involuntarily landed on Sanji's face, as he sat back upright to welcome the familiar face. With a little digging, it wasn't a hard secret that the cook had a soft spot for kids to unravel, but the boy with the knack for vegetables in particular had won Sanji's respect and friendship early on.

"Yeah, sorry I took so long- 'you doing alright?"

Fletcher nodded; after finding out that Russel was all right and unharmed, he was doing fine. For now, anyway, until the inevitable plummetting of emotions that was sure to happen eventually. But, anyway.

"Uh-huh. My classes are okay, and I got a new roommate, and I'm not sick anymore!"

"Glad to hear it. Catch-!" Grabbing an apple from the bowl of fruit on the table he slung it Fletcher's way. He knew the kid had troubles, but he knew that he wasn't just putting a brave face on this time around; not that he'd admit it as such, but it was a relief that he was doing okay.

"New roommate huh? What are they like?"

He'll meet Robin soon, for now, have a spazzy kid in need of MORAL GUIDENCE or at least a snack jackbotsattack June 26 2010, 00:41:59 UTC
Jack had hit a snag with the robots, one that he probably wouldn't be able to work out unless that Bleeker kid came through on the parts. In the meantime, he had decided to start work on Lucy's lasers, but for designing he always liked to have some sugar in his system. Of course, there weren't any junk food in his room, so he had decided to sneak into the kitchen in search of some.

It was just his luck that the cook was in there.

"Uuuuh," he began intelligently. "Any chance a guy can get a snack around here?"

Sanji's cheerful disposition was slightly dented at the appearance of this apparently highly intellectual specimen. He obligingly arched his eyebrow as non-commitally as he could.

"Depends if you ask nicely. What're you hungry for?"

*basks in love* He's SO much fun. ^^ jackbotsattack June 26 2010, 01:01:06 UTC
Nice? Tch. Jack Spicer, Evil Boy Genius, did not DO "nice." Especially not if this guy with the freak eyebrow was going to snap at him to do so.

"Anything with sugar," he ordered, flopping down in a chair. He put a finger to his chin in thought. "Pudding would be cool," he added.

OOC: Btw, totally lurking the Sanji/Del thing above cuz it's so cute, and YES fall in love with Sanji cuz he is awesome in a totally spazzy lolwut kind of way. ^^

Oh, this guy was going to be a laugh a minute, Sanji could just tell.

Giving the kid an unimpressed look, the cook decided that the best way to fight venom was with an antidote. Pushing himself off the chair he set to work with an idle; "Pudding it is then."

His hands were, however, anything but idle for the next few fast-speeding minutes, as something that looked like it ought to have been on the page of a michelin-star restaurant menu appeared in front of Jack shortly afterwards.

"Nougat Glacé with Coulis and Almond Tuile, enjoy." He sat down again as if he'd done nothing more than tie his shoelaces, spinning a fork around his fingers in a nonchalant manner.

[[ooc: fff I know right? I had no idea it was going to end up so adorable <3]]

Derrick stood just shy of the kitchen door with a few email print-outs in his hands. Sanji's tired melody was easily heard, so he knew the cook was inside.

He had called his mother after winter break, asking for some family recipes. She emailed some of his favorites to him. The recipes were to be a thank you attempt for the... persistent care the cook gave Derrick over winter break. Even if Sanji forced glasses of water and broth down his throat every five hours while citing malnutrition for all his problems, Derrick felt he needed to do something in return. This was all he could think of.

However, the illness spreading throughout the school prevented Derrick from giving the recipes to Sanji. Leaning against the hall wall, the student looked down at the print-outs with a slight nervousness. The recipes were... simple and homely. Maybe this had been a bad idea... What if he didn't like them? Derrick didn't want to anger the cook.

He took a deep breath and peeked his head into the kitchen. "... Hi?"

Sanji looked up with vague surprise that only narrowly disguised a smile of relief that almost forced its way to the surface; so, the kid was up and about again.

"Hey, you hungry for once?" He joked with his usual dour expression, before he caught sight of the papers in Derrick's hands. Looking curious he pushed a chair out from under the table with his foot to encourage Derrick to join him.

Through the appearance of the man might have been unreadable, his tune gave his feelings away. Derrick walked into the kitchen and took a seat, making sure he had a clear way to the door if Sanji. "Kinda."

He let the silence hang for a moment before putting the papers on the table. "T-they're recipes from Mom. Asked her to email them..." He quickly pushed them toward Sanji. The top page showed a recipe for a slow cooked roast flavored with a pre-made onion soup mix and served with mash potatoes and gravy made from the drippings. There was also a soup with vegetables and called for funny shaped pasta noodles. Below that was a sweet and salty snack that involved popcorn and pretzels mixed with caramel and nuts.

"Here. Uh, thanks. For earlier."

"You're... welcome, I guess." He blinked in pleasant astonishment at the gift; Sanji was honestly a little caught out. He knew how precious and personal recipes could be, and how often the most overlooked and most accomplished were home made discoveries. Picking up the modest collection of printed instructions the chef wordlessly read through them, thoroughly but rapidly running his eye down each page, flicking to the next page with practiced hands.

Finishing the last one he shuffled them back into order, laying them in a neat pile on the table. The next look he gave Derrick was a rather hard one to read, but he knew that the kid could probably 'hear' what he was feeling anyway, so he went ahead and said it.

"I'm touched."

It sounded odd, like his mouth wasn't used to making the sounds. "I'd very much like to thank your mother; these are really good. I mean, really." Re-using food stuffs and being inventive with leftovers was an art in itself, and the recipes were genuinely well crafted- he had every intention of using them in the ( ... )
