It really didn't take all that long for Hijikata to settle into the school - his post onto the network aside, things had been relatively calm and normal... or as normal as it could be for having entered a school for mutants anyway. Even now the teenager couldn't quite come with terms just yet where he was in a place where there were people just like him - the years being stigmatized had made him jaded and cynical, and while something like this was a big step for him, it was still going to take a while before Hijikata was going to ever open himself to others here. Even if they were like him, he couldn't bring himself to trust them so easily just yet.

Regardless, now that he had his stuff settled down (not at a dorm room yet though, since his place was still being decided upon or something it seemed - not that Hijikata cared much anyway) the teenager had taken to wandering around the school in order to familiarize himself with the place. After all, it was going to be bad if he turned up late for his classes just because he got lost. ( ... )

Interested by the minor inspection he went under, Sanji combined this behaviour with he fact that he didn't recognize the kid with the black ponytail and distinctively Asian appearance to deduce that this must be a new student.

This information, however, was processed in the back of his mind, as the first thing he'd picked up with his refined sense of smell was the very recognizable scent of tobacco coming from the boy's clothes.

Damn damn damn and double damn, did the first guy he saw today have to be the devil's advocate?

Tapping a finger on the table with ill suppressed aggravation he nodded shortly. "Head chef, so happens. Can I help you?" He couldn't help his voice being rather biting; withdrawel aside, he'd never appreciated that people mistook his young age for lack of expertise.

Only the very occasional smoker himself (though the teenager did have the slightest feeling that might change soon...) Hijikata never truly noticed the other's reaction to what he sensed from him. As it was, all he thought was that this guy - head chef, he had said - seemed to be really annoyed all of a sudden now. Then again, it certainly wasn't his business as to why the guy was annoyed. He was here for his own reasons.

Hijikata gave the kitchen a glance, as if looking around for something before he turned back to look at the man. "Where do you keep your mayonnaise?" came the (understandably strange) question almost out of the blue.

Catering for students who were made out of rock, channelled lightning, were aliens or even dragons, Sanji had experienced his fair share of odd requests, but he had to admit that this was a new one, as he arched his eyebrow quizzically at the newcomer.

"Mayonnaise?" He nodded sideways at the fridge; "Should be some in there, but I can make some fresh for you if you like... but, er, don't you want something else?" He made a gesture with a hand- "You know, to put the mayonnaise on?"

Franky's last two weeks had seen their own bit of moodiness, due to a withdrawal of a whole different sort. Good as it was to see Han again, it kept making the cyborg think about the Family down home. He figured Stupidberg was taking care of them, but they really were useless without him.

Christmas hadn't really been the same without them, either.

He entered the kitchen with a vague wave at the chef, hardly giving him a look. "Just passin' through, Curly-bro." He popped the fridge open and grabbed a bottle--rather than his usual carbonated faire, though, he took a beer. He flicked off the cap with his thumb as though it had been held on with nothing but Elmer's glue and took a swallow.

Noting the arrival of the tall-haired cyborg with a curt nod, Sanji leaned his hips back against the table surface; honestly, and here he'd been hoping for someone worth the time.

Watching him extract a beer, his interest in the choice of drink was slightly stemmed by the sight of Franky's method of opening it- it had been a while since their introductory scuffle, but the impressive strength of the guy seemed as effortless fearsome as it had been back then, as he sent out a hand to catch the bottle cap almost without thinking about it.

"Not your usual?" He rolled the serrated edges of the metal disk around in his fingers; he'd only seen the teacher drink soda before now.

"Lookin' for something with less kick." There weren't too many people who would compare soda and beer like that, but again, this was Franky. He gave the bottle a little swirl before leaning himself back against the fridge. "Sometimes gotta go for what'll take the energy down a notch, y'know?"

He gave the young cook a small look-over. Their interactions before couldn't exactly be described as 'relaxed,' but the guy did seem a bit more tense than usual; a stiffness in his posture, despite the way he was trying to hold himself. "How're you holdin' up down here? Gettin' out enough?"

The cook's relaxed pose was somewhat undone by his foot, which kept tapping to some rapid and unheard music, the slightest trace of a frown on his face broken by the mechanical man's query.

"Hm? Oh, er, well enough." It didn't help that he had been feeling cooped up lately, but that the blue haired loony had to be the one to ask after it wasn't exactly good medicine to take. He made a slightly hissing noise of exasperation. "Not quite as much as I'd like... how did that missions go with you, anyhow?"

Bursting into the kitchen in a frazzled frenzy, Lottie dashed towards Sanji and clutched the lapels of his suit jacket, shaking him wildly. Her blue eyes were wild and panicked and her curls looked the slightest bit unruly.

"Sanji! You have GOT to help me!" she cried, "I have a test coming up in cooking class and I STILL don't know the difference between a teaspoon and a tablespoon!" The poor girl had decided to take cooking mainly because Tiana made it seem so easy. Boy oh boy she was wrong. It was a lucky thing she hadn't set the kitchen on fire by now.

Finding himself caught up in the whirl of pink, blond and panic that was Lottie, Sanji managed to recover from being whip-lashed back and forth like a ragdoll sufficiently to hear the request of the flustered student. Still trapped by the lapels he tried to blink the surprise away (although it was most assuredly a welcome one), before giving the girl his typically hapless smile and a light chuckle.

"Well, you came to the right place to learn that at least..." A small part of him hoped that she was exaggerating, but from the look on her face- perhaps it was best not to get his hopes up on the matter.

"Er... so... what do you need to learn, exactly?"

ACK! Sorry it took so long! Life is CUH-RAYZEE over here bigdaddyzgirl June 10 2010, 04:34:58 UTC
Releasing her death grip on Sanji's suit jacket, she began pacing back and forth nervously. It took a few moments for Sanji's question to even register at all. So many things were whizzing through her head at lighting speed, all from a realization that she wasn't at all prepared for. It wasn't her fault she didn't pick up on things as fast as everyone else! That cute boy that sat across the way from her kept distracting her.

"Well, I just need a few things clarified on the whole measuring spoon thing." she said after she slowed down and took some deep breaths. "There are some other things that I just need to memorize, like the boiling point of water at both Celsius and Fahrenheit, how long certain things can be left out before they go bad and other such things." There was a whole lot more she needed to know, but she couldn't exactly remember everything she needed help with. She'd have to refer to her notes later after she took care of the things she did remember.

Don't worry! I've been in France for a week anyhow :D love_hurricane June 12 2010, 19:54:51 UTC
Falling back against the work surface to smooth down his hair and collar whilst watching the anxious student flit back and forth in front of him like an agitated bird, the cook chewed a lip at the escalating list. Really, to him all of the things she mentioned were as natural and easy as breathing and sleeping, and he wasn't really a teacher; he didn't know how to do that sort of thing properly. Still, a lady had come to him to seek aid, and he would rather drown than turn down a damsel in distress in her hour of need ( ... )
