Did LJ die?

Feb 25, 2010 20:54

Someone recently told me that "LJ is dead."* I know it's had its problems in the past with mass migrations and whatnot, and although I know I've asked this before (about every couple of years, actually), where do people go to? I refuse to do any of that Twitter nonsense, and MySpace and Facebook are far too annoying for me to deal with, IMHO ( Read more... )

Considering how long it takes me to catch up on my f-list, I don't think LJ is dead :P

Solis is right, pretty much everyone is on facebook...but it's a different space altogether I think. I think blogger/blogspot and wordpress are becoming more popular for the blog/journal type stuff.

LOL. As I migrate back online, I wish to set limits on my time I spend here. In my past, I used to spend ungodly numbers of hours here in LJ, and that was with this being the only place I went. I can't even imagine going more than 1 or 2 places online to socialize, honestly. I'd never do anything else with my Life ;-)

Hrm. Interesting points.

As it happens, I was just trying to get a feel for FB by peeking in at some pages, but all of my friends are (not surprisingly) set to "friends only" or whatever. I can't see shit without setting up an account, and as I've spent the past hour+ researching FB, I'm only being further reminded of why I have no interest in BF beyond the simple fact that there ARE so many people on it (not a great sole reason to go there, BTW). Which, now that I think about it, isn't really that much of a "plus" in my world. And again I say unto you:

Hrm...

I don't think LJ is dead, just a little slow these days. I'm hoping the people who entirely migrated to places like Facebook come to realize how incomparable the two are - FB is just little flashes and bits of usually pointless info, whereas LJ encourages actual content. Blogs may have sucked away some of the content too, and that's more tolerable, though I still don't feel they replace the personal feeling of LJ. I, for one, am sticking around here unless it entirely dies. Especially since I feel it's becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy as people announce that LJ is dead and then leave, creating exactly the situation they predicted.

I agree with these sentiments, but as I stated below, I'm at a point of re-examining my Relationship to many computer-related things, including (and particularly) LJ. This is one of the bigger topics I've been meaning to write about...

OTOH, I must confess that the surprising number of replies to this post alone (14) is quickly dispelling the meme that "LJ is Dead," at least right now ;-)
