They also don't take into account people who are underemployed, as I was last time around (shortly after 9/11). But the majority of people are still employed ;-)

Well, no. 7 out of 8 people may be employed--or they may simply not be receiving benefits. Tay wouldn't be in that 1 of 8 counted as unemployed.

My point is that one of the things I tried to remind myself as I was unemployed oh-such-a-short-time-ago, is that the vast majority of people still are employed. It's easy to look at the "OMG it's at 13%!" rather than the "OMG 87% are still employed!"
