heh, I never thought much of it but yeah I guess I do make a lot of Asian food. I guess it is because I grew up with a huge Asian/Polynesian influence all around me. Instead of eating meat and potato like a lot of people I grew up eating a lot of rice and fish.
I am not sure it would mix up and grind up in a blender so well. It might get stuck as it is pretty thick when you grind it all up together. You could shred everything really fine with a grater or mandeline or something.
You can get one at Uwajimaya in the dept. next to the Hello Kitty store. It is near all the bento plastic boxes and onigiri molds. I got it last summer but just now used it.
Oh, and tell Peter I did do it by hand! I still had to moisten the edges of the wrappers with egg white with my finger and I still had to fill the gyoza with a spoon full of filling and I still had to press them shut. This thing only makes sure they are crimped properly and makes it a little easier. I just didn't have to pinch the dough with my fingers to crimp and make pretty.
Yeah... Boys just don't understand. If I had to do it without this thing I don't know if I would be making them. It would take too long.
Yeah, they are great! I will be making my own dough in the future but I have figured out if I put it through the pasta maker and make really wide and long "lasagne" noodles I can use a biscuit cutter to get perfectly round wrappers that are even in thickness. (I will first see how fast it goes rolling by hand, and if it does not work out I will opt for the pasta machine).
Look in the phone book for Asian stores.. I am sure you will find one in town someplace. If not I guess you will have to look online. Good Luck on your search for one. Where I live it seems there is an Asian store on every corner. (probably like how cuban stores are all over Miami)
