Life as Ethnicity: Other

This is it.

This, an account by a half Indian, half white, Brit, is the closest thing I have ever read to my own experience as a culturally English, ethnically Chinese person.

And I realise that in one way, it's ridiculous to be so shocked and awed to have someone capture it so well, but I am.

I had a quick look at her blog and really related to what I read but it looks like she doesn't update very often anymore?

Great article. It resonated for me as well in some ways, less in others. There was a sizable Chinese population in my town, so I did grow up with peers of similar backgrounds, but we did still live in a predominantly white, middle/upper-middle-class suburb. So I definitely knew what it was like to be Other. It just took me a looong time to be aware and angry about it.

A bit off-tangent but I do often worry about the balance of being rightly angry (and striving to address the issue) versus just relaxing and enjoying life as it is.
