Story 266: "Dr. Scully's School for Exceptional Boys" by prufrock's love

Jul 10, 2016 14:02

A couple of months back on the "Silver Cornet" post, I asked members if anyone was still reading here. Would you believe I'm still getting comments on that post? Well, I am, most recently just a couple of days ago. A kind anon replied: "Yes! I'm new, and I'm HERE! Love this place! Don't ever quit. 😄" It was sweet, it cheered me up, and it reminded ( Read more... )

My heart leapt when I saw the author name Prufrock's Love. I can't recall if I've read this one before. It doesn't ring a bell. I'm glad I was able to put it on my Nook to take around with me! I need a good novel length XF story. It's been far too long. And I NEED to escape from reality right now.

Thanks for the rec! I look forward to discussion when we've all read it.

ETA: I was able to read the first chapter and I love it already!

I'm rereading old fic favorites myself for much the same purpose.

I hope this will be a new fic favorite.

Thank you so much for this rec. I'd never have found this exceptional story on my own. I've been reading and rereading some of the classics but have no idea where to find newer stories.

I was riveted by this story, heartbroken for Mulder and cheering for his chance for a "normal" life. I could not guess how it was going to end and was delighted with the way it did. Superb.

Thanks again for the rec. Where can I find more by this author?

Thank you for commenting. Readers make me happy. ♥

I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I was also surprised by how the story ended but in a good way. I think it leaves room for a sequel, too, which would make me very happy. I'm working out my own thoughts and will post them later today or tomorrow.

It is difficult to find new fic, even more difficult to find good new fic in this fandom. Mimic117, who is hosts some of prufrock's fic for her, made announcements about this fic at The X-Files Lost and Found and at Haven. If you are not a member of Haven, apply. It is still a hub for X-Files fans who ship Mulder and Scully.

Where to find more fic by prufrock's love. She reposted some of her most popular stories to Gossamer a few years back. Since some of them were revised, I'd read those first. We discussed "SN 1572" (a reworking of "Negative Utopia" here and there is a link on that post. We have discussed many of her fics. I am an unabashed prufrock's love fangirl. The rest of her old fic can be found on her old geocities site, though I ( ... )

wait, are you saying Syntax6 has posted 2 stories to Fanfiction.net that she DIDN'T post to her own website??? I've been allowing myself to read her longer stories only sparingly, saving them up if you will, and would love to see more. And of course I need to read Scavenger, whenever/however I can (when does it come out??)...

No, all of the stories she wrote as Syntax6 are on her website. For some reason she posted them to FF.net as well. But she also wrote as Hannah Mason, and Pink Flamingo (Apex) and perhaps other AKAs.

The new book has no firm date as yet.

Just finished reading this story for the second time when I saw it here (I'm a lurker, bu t your links are great. Prufrock captured Mulder’s personality without glossing over his flaws (and strengths). Mulder is a it of a selfish *ahem* at times in the series, and seeing him written as a saint in fics is a huge turn-off. Refreshing to see him portrayed with such real humanity-being lazy about getting out, thinking about sex and trying to justify getting involved in his son's life ( ... )

Welcome. I have to leave the house but I'll have more to say when I come back later this afternoon.

If you want I can add you to the membership list so that your comments can post unscreened? Let me know and I'll do it as soon as I return.

I would be happy to be added to the membership list-sign me on! I drifted away from LJ for a few years, but the X-Files reboot brought me here in my search for *quality* fanfic. I'm a complete snob for good writing, but if you can tolerate that I will dissect fanfic to as meta a level as we can take it. All writing is basically a retelling of themes that have existed since the dawn of humanity, thus fanfic is no different from the translations and iterations of Dante or Bronte. Let's go there y'all!

Hi. It looks like I dropped the ball on adding you? Or you didn't get the invite? Either way, my apologies. I have added you (again?). It that doesn't work, ask to join and I will approve you.

Fanfic dissection is what we do here. I would bet that I am considered a snob about writing myself. You are welcome to join in and meta at will. The only rules are that we talk about the writing and not the writer and that we keep it civil if we disagree.
