Seeking assistance

Alright nerds, here's the deal. I need to add PS/2 functionality to a Dell that only has USB. Adapters won't work, I need the actual, honest-to-God PS/2 ports in the computers. Any thoughts?

computers, nerdity, work

The important question is, is this a desktop, or a laptop? The former is easy. the second, less so.

Desktop. I need to add the PS/2 so we can use the Desktop with a KVM switch.

Well, now I'm going to eat my words. I was going to say just buy a PCI card. But, I can't find any PS/2 PCI cards for sale. Which is weird, because I know I've seen them in older computers.

That was my first thought as well, a PCI card. I've seen some adapters that fit into the PCI bay, but connect to the motherboard, like the USB "cards" do, but that's only got the one PS/2 port.

Why won't adapters work? I've got them for my KVM switch here and it's working fine. The only option I can see outside of that is a) getting a USB KVM switch or b) installing a PS/2 PCI card into the computer. I couldn't find one online, but I have to assume some animal like that exists.

Part of the problem is either signal strength or getting power to the USB devices. The Desktop has no PS/2 ports and the KVM switch is entirely PS/2. Now I have a USB to PS/2 Y Adapter, which I had plugged into the KVM switch. However, the Mouse and Keyboard (PS/2 interfaces) didn't function fully - keystrokes would appear mulitple times, the mouse kept jumping around when trying to move the cursor around. That's not really a good way to work, so that adapter won't work. Using a USB mouse and keyboard - there's no power going to the devices at all.

Only the obvious one: get a new motherboard.

Not really an option, this is Government Property we're dealing with.

Well then in that case, get an intern or a temp to accidentally drop it out a window or something and expense a whole new computer. Or shell out the $40 for a new USB keyboard and mouse.

I have those. That's not the problem. I need to use the USB-only PC in a PS/2 only KVM switch and adapters (see above) aren't fully functional.
