we've captured baghdad. it's done it's all unfinished. where is saddam? where are his 80+ henchmen? where are the people that we're supposedly afterto me, this war is far from done

i'm not surprised at all by this post. i think you have a right to be concerned with all of these things. but the anger and hostility that oozes from your words is really disconcerting to me. i just think it sucks that you cannot be somewhat happy for the Iraqi people and the hope they now have. the image of an Iraqi kissing an American soldier on the cheek is a happy image. a lot of them are seriously grateful for what we have done. and they are not brainwashed or delusional. they are genuinely happy. there is a lot of work to be done in the future, but for the moment, i don't think rejoicing is at all uncalled for. but i'm sure it can't be easy for someone who has been against this war for so long to admit that anything that comes out of it...even Iraqis dancing in the streets with elation...is a good thing. if you're against one thing, you're against all of it, and i understand that. i just wish you could recognize that some Iraqis are pretty excited right now. can you at least give them that

i'm not surprised at all by your comment, either. it's not anger and hostility towards the iraqi people... just the ulterior motives of our government. i rejoice with and pity the iraqis right now. nothing negative is going to be typed from my hands about them, i assure you.
you know what, you're wrong in thinking that nothing good has come out of these attacks. the iraqis will be given a little bit of happiness, sure. but nothing permanent. nothing that really means anything in the long-term prosperity of the country. we "freed" the afghans from the taliban, and i'm sure they were elated with momentary excitement, too. look at them now. we got bored. oops

everything you said here is very well put. my being upset with your opinions this time around had little to do with the fact that they were different from mine. i was just sad because i wish for positive thinking in almost every situation. i'm an idealist. an optimist. i wanted you to be happy. but if you don't feel it's appropriate right now, that's cool with me. you certainly have valid reasons not to be.
awwww, i love you! *hugs a million times* i appreciate your optimism. and you know, contary to popular belief, i am rather optimistic in my own cynical, sarcastic, sardonic way. it's politics that ruins that personality pattern. i have never, can never, and probably will never feel optimistic about the leaders of our nation. not the way history has dictated their actions, and not the way that they're carrying them out either. it disgusts me. (however, i would just like to clarify that i am not an anarchist, as i believe that theory to be completely unfounded on any realistic principles

hahha i love how my lj friends think along the same lines i do. "but, this is our country! we live here!" "yes, but do you have a flag?" hahha oh my god. i love eddie. he's coming to san francisco in the summer, too. i'm going to die. x.x.x
i know! *looks around in a frenzy* wait, syria looks good. and hey, we can fabricate something around iran, too. we'll be fine. don't worry about us! x.x.x
this morning on the bbc radio broadcast the ladyfrom the bbc in b kept trying to get the man from the bbc who was in iraq to talk about how bad the looting was and how it could become such a serious problem....but he wouldn't even humor her...he was like no it's not as bad as everyone is making it sound....the looting is more symbolic than anything else....yes, some food was taken, but they made them take it back....yada yada yada yada...and it was funny because she just kept asking questions trying to lead him into saying how terrible the conditions were....and he wouldn't.....she also said something really random and funny, but for the life of me i can't remember it....oh well... also, i think you're right on the money with that flag on the head thing....i heard though that the kid who climbed up there and did that got in trouble cuz it made it look like we are trying to conquer iraq instead of liberate....and then they pulled the statue down anyway, so i bet he was all like "why the hell i'd climb up there"....
yeah, of course the looting is symbolic. they're destroying the remains of a tyrannical regime. and i must say, for them, it is terribly satisfying. yay for the iraqis not being civilized. they deserve their temporary freedom right now.
yes, it does look like a colonization effort. as i said, they used to put flags on conquered areas of countries back in the imperialstic/colonizing days. wait, back then?
hahha "why the hell did i climb up there." poor guy. what a bunch of wasted calorie-burning. x.x.x
like he hadn't burned enough calories already being that he's at war and what not....where'd he get all that energy?
a unicef building over there got fucked up somehow too....i don't know who did it....us....looting, rioting iraquis....i have no idea.....but now the people that help the kiddies can't help the kiddies cuz their building got all broke and stuff.....that's not a great thing....
no, it's not a great thing...not at all. not that much of it will matter in a little while anyway. the u.s. has more important things to look at... like syria. and iran. and saudi arabia. and any other oil-producing/related country we can get our greedy, selfish hands on. i was reading the economist yesterday, and the way that powell and rumsfeld are fucking around with the intentions, actions, and motives of iran and syria to make it look like "their regimes need to be ousted, too" is ridiculous. absolutely absurd, and completely used for the purpose of invading them also. "umm... *looks around nervously* they harbor terrorists. YEAH! that's right! terrorists. we have to get rid of them, too!" because, you know, you can fight terrorism. *whips out her ghostbuster business card* WHEN IS THIS GOING TO STOP?! x.x.x
