Hey -- don't sell yourself short on what schools you think you can get into. I'm convinced that a bad-ass personal essay can really boost your app. Also, I really haven't seen any difference in the job market based on where you graduate from. I think it's more about what you make of your time there - if you want a career poli sci or int'l dev, internships are KEY during school. I can't emphasise that enough. So much more important that where you graduate from. But it doesn't hurt to apply to schools you think are "reach" schools... it's just the app fee, and sometimes you can get that waived.

Thanks! Most of the universities I'm looking to transfer to don't require an essay. My GPA is at a 3.4, which could be improved, but it's alright.

My first choice right now is DePaul, because they have an awesome program for my major. My second choice is Loyola in Chicago. DePaul would take ALL of my credits accumulated so far as transfer credits. Loyola has a weird policy on that.

My "safety" school is Northeastern Illinois University. They have a decent program in my field, but not nearly as impressive as DePaul or Loyola's.

Thanks for the advice about interning. I just saw that DePaul has a study abroad in Ireland that includes an internship with the government there. Of course, there's probably some cool places in Chicago that I could intern at. :)
