Summary:
Kyuhyun had always loved to have a window by his bed where he could write by. However, as far as he was concerned, he has not written anything constructive for ages. Not since he could never look at the large glass window pane again and not feel the hairs stand at the back of his neck. Not since he begin to spend every waking moment in fear and every sleeping one restless. And definitely not since the indistinguishable eerie sounds visited him resoundingly by the moonlit window almost every night. Maybe he was listening to more than he can hear.

Kyuhyun watched as the other turn around slowly, biting on her own lip.
“Maybe it was time I told the truth.” Kyuhyun blinked hard, waiting for the revelation.
“It wasn’t me who cheated.” The broken smile found its way back to her small lips again.
“It was him.”
Kyuhyun felt his jaw drop a little as the other sat back down onto his couch again, a single tear joining the stain tracks on her cheeks.
“What nobody else knows, Shindong covered it up with lies. I’ve never cheated on him, ever. It was him who did it. When I made that visit to Seoul that night I meant it as a surprise for him. But somehow the bigger surprise was on me.” She shook her head resignedly with a small smile.
“But when we broke up he led everyone else believe that it was me; that I was after his money, that when he wasn’t around I went out with another guy. I swear to God I’ve never done such a thing. After he died, the misunderstanding grew deeper. Everyone cussed at me when they heard the news. They all said he died…because of me.”
“But maybe it was true in a way. But trust me when I say I’ve lived every moment since then like I died along with him.”
Kyuhyun shook his head slightly. “But I don’t understand. Why didn’t you tell people the truth then? That it wasn’t you who cheated, that it was him?”
She gave a small smile and looked away. “What for? He’s already gone. Why let it taint his name? Let people believe whatever they want.”
“Liar.”
A voice snarled out of nowhere, sending goosebumps and chills coursing through his spine. The lights in the room flickered slightly as he shivered, feeling the temperature dive at least a few degrees. In front of him, Eunri’s head was suddenly thrown backwards, face pale and seemingly gasping for air.
A really bad feeling rose in his chest as the air suddenly became much thicker, making each consequent breath harder to draw in than before. Kyuhyun staggered forward, reaching out for the girl and pulling her towards himself.
“W-what’s happening?” Eunri’s eyes were widened with fear as she clawed at his arm feebly, seemingly too weak to move. Kyuhyun blinked hard and tried to clear away his fuzzy vision, heart thumping wildly in his chest.
“You liar! I loved you! How could you say such things?”
The girl writhed in agony at seemingly every word unheard by her, cold sweat forming quickly on her temple. He glanced at her quickly and swung his head around madly; trying to find the source of the voice he knew he couldn’t see. It felt like it was coming towards them from the centre of the living room.
‘Shindong? There’s been a misunderstanding!” he clamoured towards that direction.
“I gave you all my love! I loved you, why, Eunri? Why? I loved you!”
“S-Shindong? Are you really here?” Eunri exhaled weakly, eyes crazed in desperation.
“It’s a mistake! What are you doing to her?” Kyuhyun cried out in panic as Eunri slumped to the floor and was suddenly on all her fours, hair thrown all over her face.
“How could you? Liar! Liar! After all I did for you, all I’ve suffered for you! I want you to feel what I went through!” The voice he recognized was hoarse and violent, unlike what he had heard before. His heart felt like it was about to explode, adrenaline hitting the roof.
“I’ve already written that letter to Eunri-ssi for you! Isn’t that what you wanted?” he yelled, placing himself in front of her, protecting her with his body. Her shallow breaths echoed loudly behind him.
“It’s her fault things ended up this way! Her fault that I died! I want her to suffer! You, get out of the way!”
A full wave of nausea hit him square in the chest as he doubled forward, feeling his energy drain out from his every bone. He felt the floor shake beneath his feet and the things around him seemed to vibrate violently as the light flickered again. His eyelids had never felt heavier before. His knees gave way and he too, was on the ground now, trying his best to shake the feeling away but to no avail.
He had to do something. Fight back, a voice resonated in his ears; fight back. But at the same time he was already drifting away more and more now.
At the back of his mind he wished for something, someone to just come and stop this feeling. Feeling light-headed he suddenly wished that Yesung had forgotten something after all. And then an image of a smirking face floated in his mind out of a sudden. If only he was here, would he have known what to do? A voice laughed at him from the back of his mind for such a ridiculous thought.
“What the fuck!”
What the fuck? Kyuhyun pried his eyes open forcefully with all the strength he could muster, eyes stinging from the burst of light flooding his eyes suddenly. In front of him were blurry shapes he could hardly make out. He shuddered as a deafening groan filled the air suddenly, lifting a lax arm to cover his right ear. The crushing feeling left him and through blurry sight, he saw a slender form making big strides towards him and then the figure of a tall profile shifting him aside, scooping up Eunri’s limp body into two strong arms. He gave a sigh of relief through half-lidded eyes.
He felt a tug at his own arm. “No, let me stay,” he muttered, recognizing the tall frame to be SIwon. He shook his head, vision slowly coming back to him.
“He was sucking the both of you dry, stupid.”
He groaned and shook his head harder. “Let him be then. Take her and go.”
“But what about you? I can’t leave you here, hyung!”
“Just take her and go before I kick you out. Now.” Quick steps filed out of the room through the doorway.
“Hey you, bad hangover?” Two hands were shaking his shoulders rather ruthlessly as he saw the familiar face. Kim Heechul was staring at him with those piercing eyes again; hair chopped shorter and dyed black again (his natural colour, Kyuhyun hoped), making those intense eyes even more menacing and the skin whiter than they were before. He gulped.
He always had the urge to just barge into the man’s apartment to have his questions answered, but never did he ever expect him to turn up at his doorstep instead.
“Y-you’re here…” he mumbled under his breath, a feeling of relief bursting out suddenly. He thought he heard a loud ‘aish’ before getting a slap on the cheek. He opened his eyes in annoyance.
“I-it’s Shindong. It was him, not her. He’s the one who cheated on his girlfriend...”he muttered to the man.
“Aish, this is getting messy. And stupid.” He saw the man shake his head.
“Why are you here?!” The previously lifted presence returned as Kyuhyun got back up on his feet, pulled up by unexpected support from the older man’s slender arms.
“Of course I am, Shindongie…” Heechul smirked, flicking his dark hair away from his eyes in a suave action. “To stop you two from doing stupid things and regretting them later. You both and him the former.” Kyuhyun wasn’t dizzy enough to miss the sarcasm aimed at him.
“Where did you take her? Get her back here now!” the voice snarled again. Kyuhyun stared at Heechul whose eyes were transfixed at a spot in the middle of his living room. He didn’t need to ask to know that Shindong was there.
“My friend whom you’ve had a couple of bad experience with has taken her to somewhere safe, I assure you. But safe isn’t exactly how you want her to be, am I right?” Heechul drawled, knowing he could count on Siwon for the girl’s safety.
Kyuhyun felt a sneeze coming but quickly stopped it from interrupting the tense situation. “Shindong, it was you who cheated, right? Not Eunri. Why did you let it happen?”
“NO, you’re wrong! I loved her! Where is she?!”
“You’re not going anywhere, got it? The both of us are here, so you’re stuck with us. If you really love her so much then why are you hurting her? You couldn’t find her before this because your energy wasn’t strong enough and you were bounded to us two. So you tricked the idiot here into writing the letter to your girlfriend in order to lure her here. You wanted revenge; you believed in the lie you built when you were alive. Funny how you fell for it after your death.”
Kyuhyun felt his jaw drop down a little at that.
“No! I loved her! It was her who cheated! It was her fault!”
“It was nobody’s fault except your own. You died because you were too much of a coward to own up to the wrongs you did, letting the one you supposedly love so much to bear the guilt for you, even after death. You were, and still are nothing but a coward!”
“I loved her! I wanted to give her my all. Why did I work so hard for? She had my love and she threw it all away behind my back! And now I’m stuck like this! No one understands my pain. I don’t want to be dead!”
The lights in the room flickered wildly as the voice wailed. Heechul gave a small cough, face still as serious as ever. “Quit pinning your death on your girlfriend. Even if you did kill yourself over her, it was your own choice! No one forced you to throw your own life away.” Kyuhyun’s hand trembled slightly at the dangerously low voice.
“But you didn’t anyway. For whatever it was, your death was an accident. You didn’t die from the fall.” A short pause. “You choked to death before you fell.”
Heechul watched as the glassy face screw up into a bunch, sizzling in and out of sight into a white fuzzy image. The lights flickered even more violently as everything in the room began to vibrate.
“No! You’re lying!” The voice was hoarse and outraged.
“Trust me,” came the confident answer after a cough. “I wouldn’t waste my time lying to you.”
And then there was a loud groan and then a scream before Kyuhyun felt the floor shake beneath him. His vision was clouded; making it was hard to stay focused. Before long his living room was whirling slowly and slowly picking up its speed. Heechul was just standing beside him a moment ago, clutching his head as if in pain. Where had he gone? What’s happening?
Everything else dissolved into a tornado of wild colours continuing to whirl all around him. Kyuhyun’s head felt like it was no longer attached to his neck. In the midst of it, he thought he saw Ddangkoma’s glass container circling around him as well in midair. Yesung-hyung wouldn’t be so happy about it, he found himself thinking at the back of his mind. Inaudible voices filled his ears but he was far too dizzy and tired to figure them out. He felt sicker than before, feeling like if he could empty his insides it would be the best feeling ever.
And suddenly the whirling stopped and he felt his feet planted firmly back onto the ground. He was still in his living room, except that the couch was different and there was clearly no Ddangkoma.
The room was dark and obviously very much different, because as he edged closer to his couch he saw two figures on it huddled in a bunch; cuddling and kissing each other.
