[ He's looking much better now than he was when he first re-emerged. But this video finds him mulling over a cup of tea at his desk, glancing out the window a moment. ]There's a question on my mind that I wasn't able to ask last year so indulge me ( Read more... )

[Oh. Huh...so that's what this is all about, is it?]

...I'm not sure how that's different from any other festivals Vatheon has held.

[She tilts her head a bit curiously.

...Hey, doc. At least she's not bitty anymore~]

[ Good to see her back to normal. As much as he has to admit, he's kind of missed the girl. ]

I've noticed a pattern of sorts. Vatheon tends to celebrate holidays that were quite familiar to me back home and perhaps to anyone who came from a world like mine.

[ A beat. ]

Did you find your prince?

A pattern...interesting.

[She's perhaps about to comment more on that; maybe even ask him for some elaboration, when she hears his question.]

--Oh.

Well, I...

[She wants to ask him how he knows; she doesn't really remember telling him much, but somehow she is not surprised.]

Y-Yes. I did, in fact.

Of course, this is all just theory. I find myself rather curious as to what calendar this place follows.

[ But there's the semblance of a smile from that sentence. ]

Good to hear. I'd started to worry about you.

Damn, I can't think of a way to word it differently. *spreads pasta all upons* zelda_hylia December 19 2011, 01:33:02 UTC
It is not too different where I am from. People get together with those closest to them and speak of the year that has passed, usually over a dinner. At midnight, we light a candle and pray for our hopes for the new year. There are gifts given, but only to those you want to thank for their care during the year that has passed. It is not so obligatory as Christmas gifts seem to be.

Mmm... pasta.... I do like my pasta... xblood_lusting December 20 2011, 00:24:47 UTC
[ There is a pause as he considers this. ]

Perhaps not as obligatory though I don't remember where the practice came from. It does sound a bit like Christmas in that wording.

Quite interesting that different worlds share a common practice around this time.

If I had to guess, I would say it is because winter is a very gloomy season. People tend to get depressed rather easily in such conditions, and a holiday with so much preparation and ceremony about it does wonders to distract them.

[ This... this is quite a possible theory. Ancient customs and all that, little possibilities of power. ]

Or there are those who do consider winter being the end of the year. Perhaps it was only right to bring family and friends together before then?
