Reading this morning that some BC residents are buying Potassium Iodide pills to combat potential nuclear radiation from Japan has prompted me to post ( Read more... )

One of the news stations here was showing a weather map with the wind currents that showed how any radiation that even tried getting to the west coast would be so diluted before it got here that it was silly to worry over. I wish I could remember who it was so you could add that to your list...

And, even though it's over something like this, it's nice to see you're okay love.

Thank you for posting something that actually makes sense, steers away from the chicken little effect that's inundating the US news, and gives more accurate information.

And it's good to "see" you :) *hugs*

When we first saw the news reports we had a little scare until we were able to contact my family in Japan. They're all doing well -- if a little shaken at the events (both literally and figuratively). Now, once they get the reactors taken care of, we can start rebuilding Japan. Again.

Honestly. ^^

MUWAH! HUGE HUGS. Glad your loved ones are well. You were in my thoughts, of course, when the Quake hit.

Yes, time for rebuilding! I give Japan 1 year to be unrecognizable with its awesomeness again.

Hey, I figure that, as many times as Godzilla flattened Tokyo and it's still standing, we can rebuild from this again :)

Had to play damage control from all the crap that's been on the news lately to Mama-san. She's been glued to NHK Japan and they're not much better than the US stations with the sensationalism and doom and gloom news casts. With little information and knowledge, she was thinking the radiation was of the exact same type as the fallout from the atomic bombs and just as bad. I can see how it would scare her since she went to Hiroshima six months after the bomb was dropped to help her friend look for her family and saw the devastation there. *sighs*

And on a side note since I know you've been talking to Pira -- tell her I said hi and hope she and her family are doing well? for me? I emailed her a while back but didn't hear anything back so... :(

It is so refreshing to read a post like this - I have had nonstop discussion with my dad about what's going on in Japan and the Middle East, though sometimes I think it's a waste of my breath, as Dad is a doomsday prophet of the first water. *sigh ( ... )

Yeah, I've been keeping a peripheral eye on the crack coming out of other governments and news agencies. Shocking really.

But it's a reminder of just how different East and West mentalities are.

Kipling did have a point about the whole "East is East and West is West" thing, after all.

Here's an update on that report about our Ambassador to Japan: it seems Malacanang Palace (our equivalent of the White House) is denying the Ambassador ever made that request to evacuate the embassy. *blink* OK, if he never did...then how did this get into the mainstream newspapers? Because like, everyone seemed to be carrying the story.

The things that come to mind are:
- the Palace is doing a cover-up (PR disaster damage control)
- someone considered a "reliable source" has it in for either the Ambassador or the paper that carried the story, or both

As we say in Manila..."Stay tuned for the next exciting chapter!"
