The smell of cheap whiskey and the sound of goodbye (open)

Raylan's had a busy few weeks. Nothing very far out of the ordinary, just a lot of prisoners to transport, officials to protect, and even one fugitive to track down. He prefers work to a lack of it, to the surprise of no one who knows him, but it's meant he hasn't been in Xanadu terribly recently. Of course, there's only one person there, to his ( Read more... )

When Raylan does end up in Stigmata, he won't be alone - Bruce ('Tom') has meant to keep his distance, lately, but he tried to get somewhere else and got immediately ported into the damn bar, again. It's a common occurrence and one he's given up being annoyed by; he'll be able to leave in a little bit, and the differences in the passing of time between Xanadu and Gotham mean it's not a big deal. He has plenty he can work on in the mean time, and there's always meditation.

He sequesters himself at an out of the way table with a notebook and an absurdly thin laptop (as well as the pieces of a PINpoint he keeps dismantling, idle, like he's only doing it to keep his hands busy) with only a glass of water from the bar. Bruce isn't inclined to bother other patrons, but, well - there are some faces he'll notice.

It's not only the cowboy hat, but the demeanor that sets Raylan apart from the dead man (men) who shared his face. But that doesn't mean the resemblance isn't uncanny, from all he can gather, and the photo he'd seen.

So there's a slight air of caution, above and beyond his normal paranoia, whenever he ends up in Xanadu, and Stigmata most especially. Still, there's no call to lose his manners. If 'Tom' happens to look up at him, Raylan will touch the brim of his hat, politely. He's no cause to go making enemies here when he has enough at home.

Bruce is all too familiar with not only full-blown alternates but physical dopplegangers (in fact, it's why he's been trying to stay out of Xanadu lately - but when it rains, it pours, and he's had a full dance card, as it were), and so is, in general, inclined to be sympathetic. But when you look like a man who inherently wasn't one man and put somebody through what he did, well. Bruce is staring.

It's not a gawking 'oh god what the hell' sort of stare, but something sharp and skeptical - he's trying to determine if this is some third personality he should be worried about, and doesn't bother to hide it. He doesn't really respond to the hat tip, just furrows his brow slightly, almost a real expression.

Raylan sighs, and waits until he has a glass of whiskey in hand before he says, "I'm not him." It's an observation that's deceptively idle, as if he were remarking on the weather. "Though I'm getting used to the reaction. I'd buy you a drink as a goodwill gesture, if they weren't free."
