Normally at about this time she would have been singing with her sisters and turning in their slow, stately dance. Her plans for the night had not included getting hit with a gaudy piece of jewelry and tumbling down the long miles to earth. Nor had they included an ankle that felt either sprained or broken. And they definitely didn’t add in ( Read more... )

"Haven't been, couldn't say." Christie is so very helpful except when he isn't. He doesn't know what she is other than not human so for now (at least, could change on a dime really) he's willing to talk to her with the minimal of malice. "Do you think there might be a party? Tea? I do love a right proper tea."

Yvaine startles and turns, brows drawing together. "I don't see any party, and I certainly don't intend to throw one." She pushes a length of silvery white hair out of her face and stares at the stranger. "What is this place?"

"It's not Hell." He'll stare right back, you're welcome. "This is the agora. What are you?"

"The agora? Which? We're not in Greece, are we?" It certainly doesn't look like Greece, but perhaps she fell further than she thought. "I'm a star. What are you, then?" Not who, but what. Since apparently it mattered.

"You're at a crossroads between worlds," says a rather calm, quiet fellow with a limp of his own. "Are you hurt, miss?"

"Now that's interesting." And it makes as much sense as singing stars and heart-stealing witches. She turns to the new arrival and nods, mouth twisting. "My ankle."

"I can either offer you my arm or my cane and help you to a chair?" His faults are many, but Sebastian is a terribly polite gentleman. "My name is Sebastian and while you're stuck here for a moment, you'll likely be able to return to your home."

Kindness was unexpected and welcome, even if she wasn't sure how exactly she could get home again. "That would be much appreciated, thank you. I'm Yvaine."

"You're hurt, miss - may I be so bold as to offer my service?" He looks Victorian and earnest, but he is a doctor, so the question isn't entirely idle.

Her lips quirk into a half-smile. So many gentlemen rushing to her aid. It's rather unsettling. "What service would that be, sir?"

"I'm a doctor. I could take a look at your ankle, if you wished." He'd normally not speak uninvited to a lady, but from the way she's walking, she has to be in some pain.

"Oh. Yes, please. Thank you." She's not used to uttering human courtesies, and they stumble out awkwardly.
