So it turns out you can fashion a reasonable hide-out in the basement, as long as you are willing to make your own fun. Which is probably the best explanation for the signs up on the walls, saying things like "STAY OUT", "NO PARENTS ALLOWED", and "THERE ARE RATS DOWN HERE EW", with little seahorses doodled all around the letters

Rory escaped from Mrs. Kim and Lane for a little while in the afternoon (and yeah, she'd wished she could've nabbed Lane on her own for a few minutes) and snuck back to her room.

A few minutes after that, she made her way down to the basement with an enormous bag of candy and a huge thermos of coffee with a few cups. "I bring provisions for ye who are in hiding," she called.

Jaye totally starts singing part of "Wind Beneath My Wings" when she sees what she brought.

"Alec told me to," Rory says, grinning. "Are you guys playing with the origami stuff?"

"And eating sugar!" Jaye says happily. And she picks up a crane and makes it quack at Rory.

Rory quacks back.

[fates_jaye]

Jaye looks at the crane and says, "You have a friend."

To Rory, she says, "We have Operation."

"Is it water on the knee?" Rory immediately asks, because she grew up in the nineties and actually turned on a television occasionally.

"I'm perfecting the wish bone surgery. I rule. I should go pre-med."

"The idea of you as a doctor terrifies me," Rory says. "Though. Glitter stitches. It's an idea."

[fates_jaye]

"Oooh. They're make wounds prettier. More infected, but prettier."

[auroryborealis]

"We can work with this," Rory says. "It could be sterile. Just...shiny."

[fates_jaye]

"But how do you stop the glitter from coming off?"

[auroryborealis]

"It'd be that plasticky glittery thread stuff from craft stores," she says.

[fates_jaye]

"It doesn't hold too well, though," she says. "You'd try a craft thingie, and try to tie it, and it would come undone. You don't want people's guts spilling all out."

"We could safety pin it."

[fates_jaye]

"Is that the one they use on diapers or the kind that looks like a little needle?"

You'd think the diapers part would tell Jaye what a safety pin is.
