So it turns out you can fashion a reasonable hide-out in the basement, as long as you are willing to make your own fun. Which is probably the best explanation for the signs up on the walls, saying things like "STAY OUT", "NO PARENTS ALLOWED", and "THERE ARE RATS DOWN HERE EW", with little seahorses doodled all around the letters

"I think we should play Operation again," Jaye says, already opening the box. Because playing a game inolving tweezers and buzzing is a good idea when you're hyper.

"Okay, but I'm still going to kick your ass," Alec says, looking vaguely smug. Possibly more than is warranted given how many M&Ms he's consumed in one sitting.

"Nuh uh. I'm better at getting the wishbone thingie. Years of experience, oh em gee." Apparently hyper makes her talk like Rory. Okay.

"I learn quick," he warns, eyeing the red-nosed board-game-man.

[fates_jaye]

"I bet you ten bucks I can get the wishbone faster than you," she says.

[x5_alec]

He gives her an appraising look, then nods. "Fine. Ten bucks on the wishbone." Alec points at her. "I'll be timing."

"Count out loud," she says, and poises the tweezers over the wishbone hole thingie. "Ready!"

Alec gives her a "don't you trust me?" face, but nods. "Fine. Aaaaaaaand-- go!"

Jaye would be better at this if she wasn't somewhere near diabetic shock. Still, she's able to get the wishbone out with the tweezers without touching the sides before he gets to nine.

She sits up, raising her arms in victory.

"Nine-- Oh." Alec leans over to look at the board a moment, then puts the bone back in its place, taking care to make sure it's right where it should be. "Okay, my turn now."

[fates_jaye]

Jaye waits, and says, "Go! One..."

Alec goes to it, the tip of his tongue between his teeth as he maneuvers the tweezers into the tiny wish-bone slot. Four seconds go by before he twitches and the buzzer goes off, making him jump. "Dammit!"

"In your face!" Jaye says, way too happily.

[x5_alec]

Alec pouts. "Best two out of three?"

[fates_jaye]

Jaye rolls her eyes overdramatically. "I suppose I can humor you," she says.

"You're so kind," Alec says, smiling sweetly.
